Appears to be lots of slop between my Lowery Andy 500's stump jumper and the blade bolts. Trying, actually struggling, to remove the big Castle nut, but once I take the nut off, I cannot get the stump jumper off. How is that accomplished? Heating and pounding? Some other method?

thanks

Its on a splined shaft. If there is play it should fall off unless the play is from the output bearing and the shaft is wiggling in the housing. bumping the outer edge of the stump jumper with a 16# sledge will usually do the trick . the SJ is heavy so its own weight will let it fall one the seized parts are jarred.

I am pretty sure the sj in on a tapered splined shaft. To remove, I usually drive 2 wooden wedges 180 degrees apart under the sj, put the nut back on the shaft and hit the nut with a hammer(being careful to not damage the shaft threads.) It will break loose all at once, so be careful it does not fall on you. Ken Sweet

Turn upside down .. take nut off. put piece of hardwood on threads. take 2 ton bottle jack and put on top of it. take chain. loop around stump jumper where chain is on top of jack. Jack up tightening up chain and hopefully pop it loose. We have done several that way

This sounds like it could work for me. I'll give it a shot tomorrow when I've regained my strength from pounding all morning.

My stump jumper was "clamped" in place, I did not have to remove the big nut from the splined shaft.

Once I cut the clamps and part of the jumper, it all fell out.

My Woods Cadet's blade carrier doesn't have a stump jumper. It fits on a splined shaft "very" tightly and I remove it with a 2 jaw puller. A friend tried removing a similar carrier by chaining it to a bottle jack and it wouldn't budge.

IF the play is between the carrier and blades, you shouldnt need to take the whole carrier off. Id try new blades and bolts. IF the bolts seat tight in the hole....the only place for play is where the bolt/blade wear
