Hi All-Phil D. here- A big thanks to the many posters who answered some of my questions pertaining to the 2320. I'm taking delivery on Thursday of my new unit with the FEL and 62"mmm. Opted to wait on the snow plow. Went for the independent lift kit and mulching kit for the mower. Dealer threw in the light protectors and forward lighting kit. So...I'm a gas engine guy and have never owned a diesel-engined machine. What should I know? What is the maintenace schedule for the 2320? Is there a break-in period? What idiosyncracies have users found with the 2320? I keep hearing stuff about the mower height adjusting knob being useless. True? I have always kept my machines ('96 subaru, '85 landcruiser, '99 craftsman mower, '63 Farmall 140, mid-90's log splitter, the list goes on..) well-maintained with regular oil and filter changes, carbs tuned properly, hydraulic fluids changed, proper tire pressure...the basics. And all the machines keep running pretty well. Now we have a diesel engine joining the family and we want to treat it right. Any little tips? Thanks all and I'll send pix when I get a chance. I'M PSYCHED!!!-Phil D.

Phil,

I think you made an excellent choice that you will be happy with. Your owner's manual should tell you everything you need to know about the maintenance schedule.

Since you like to do your own work on the machines, I would recommend also getting a shop manual for it. Not only does it describe how to diagnose/fix things, it also is a wealth of information about the systems on the machine and how they work.

Congratulations on your purchase.

I am also looking for information concerning the mower adjustment knob, I cut my grass for the first time with the 54D and no matter where I set the adjustment I had to adjust and lock on my 3 point hitch slide for the desired hieght am I doing something wrong?????? As far as the tractor goes I worked in the woods with it all day yesterday and it worked flawless could not ask for a better tractor not to big and not to small with lots of power but it is all new for me for this is my first tractor.

I have a 2320 and am very pleased with it.
The mower adjustment knob on the tractor deck near your right foot is to regulate how far down the deck goes or is used to lock the deck in the up position.
If it is not stopping the deck at the height you want there is something wrong.
Attached is the picture of mower deck height adjustment assembly from JD parts. After looking at this you might want to check under the tractor to be sure all is assemblied and hooked up correctly.
Remember the independent lift kit and/or the 3PH lift is not intended to be used as for the height setting

So let me get this straight the lever for the three point should not have control of the deck???? I followed all the instructions along with wheel adjustments but as I said no matter what I do with control knob on the bottom for deck hieght it seems not to have any bearing on it and as I said I had to lock in the three point lever to get the proper adjustment. Thanks for all your help.

Something is definatly wrong if the height adj knob is not working for you. The one on our tractor works perfect, you should only have to move the 3pt control very little to get the deck to drop to the stop set with the height adj knob. Of course all this is rendered usless if you have the independant lift kit. The upstop limiter was not set right on ours when we got it which caused some issues with locking the deck fully up but other than that all has worked as Deere says it will.
