Your steel tube needs to be slightly larger than 1/2 inch ID to accomodate the 1/2 inch OD rod

Sorry, that had totally slipped my mind. Since I didn't do it myself, I was never sure of the exact dimensions, but accepting that the rod is 1/2" in diameter, they used a drill bit that was I'd guess 1/32 or so more (17/32) to drill out the tubing for a good fit.
