Talon Tractors?

A friend of mine just bought a Talon new with loader, finish mower, tiller, snowblower and trailer for $19,000 CDN or so. Then he e-mailed me and asked, "Are these any good?"

It seems like a heck of a good price, and the dealership/importer seems okay from what I can tell from the internet, but I've never heard of Talon tractors.

As for my friend, he's got plenty of cash so I'm not too worried about him, but he's not exactly mechanical either. Fortunately, he lives a province over so I don't have to fix his stuff. The package itself is a great piece of marketing...everything an acreage owner needs.

Has anybody heard of these tractors before? Are they any good?

Hadn't heard of them before. My initial guess would have been a rebadged Jinma or Foton. Per Talon, they are DFAM, which I'm guessing is Dongfeng Agricultural Machinery(?). China Tractor-Dongfeng Agricul Tural Machinery Group,Tractors China

From what I gather about all Chinese brands, you either love them, or hate them. They do seem to be a little more prone to needing routine maintenance, but I've also read that if said maintenance is performed as directed, they will, at a minimum, work as well as any "domestic" brand, and, according to many owners' posts, even out perform much larger "domestic" models.

As far as your friend's purchase, it sounds like he got a lot of stuff for a good price.

Yeah, the price is definitely right. I like the way the package was put together too. It's like they phoned me up and asked what I'd tell a new acreage owner he needed to look after his property. I'm also hoping my friend decides to sell me the trailer for a couple dozen beer if I whine long enough. :laughing:

I'm always a little nervous when people who know nothing start buying things I've never heard of and then asking me if they're any good though. I never know what to say.
