Takes too bleeping long for the kitchen sink here to provide hot water for sanitizing cookware, cutting boards, utensils, etc. so I am going to install an electric point-of-service 2.5 gallon water heater. Does anyone have a recommendation for a certain brand and/or model they feel is a very good quality item? Thanks for any advice.

We use an Insinkerator in our barn which is on-demand hot water (very hot). These units tend to only last 4 or 5 years however. Supposedly the newer models will last longer.

For a 2.5 gal. tank I believe Bosch makes a good product.

I think point of use water heaters have a tank?
On demand are tankless.
I have a Bosch Aqua Star on demand tankless for the entire house.
Installed it in 2004 and have had no problems with it.
Mine is an older model Natural gas w/ pilot light.
Newer models have electronic ignition.
Bosch and Rheem are well know brands
I have seen 120 VAC and 220 VAC on demand for under sink without a tank.
Gallons per minute and temp. rise is how most are categorized.

Rheem RTE 13 Tankless Electric Water Heater

Good luck

On the electric models be cautious since if you turn the water on and off frequenly like for rinsing dishes off the first shot of water can be really hot. i removed a true tankless and installed a 2.5 gallon under my kitchen sink for this reason. The tankless was a Bosch which I put in the bathroom and the 2.5 gallon was a Rheem brand labeled for GE.

You do not sanitize anything with 130 degree water, do you? It may cut grease better being hot but sanitizing is 177F for 15 minutes according to this article. http://www.adph.org/environmental/assets/CleanAndSanitize.pdf I do understand the frustration of waiting for hot water though.

Thanks for the contribution, I should have mentioned I use a 50/50 mix of dish soap and bleach that is for sanitizing and the purpose of the hot water would be mainly to cut grease. Me bad, appreciate your bringing that point up !!

I have an electric whole house taknless from Steibel Eltron. It's going now on 5 years and we love it. Shaved abour 25 per month off of our electric bill.

We went with Rennai propane with 110v electric start. Instant pleasure. Electric bill dropped like a rock from the electric water heater and propane is next to nothing... i.e. 30 gallons including our stove use for 6 months. My guess is that we shaved about $50/month off of our electric bill. Not a bad savings for a $1600 whole house water heater.

I'm not sure if there's still a energy savings incentive going on now or not. But when we had ours put in 2 years ago there was a $1500 tax credit. But that only applied to certain brands and models - it did exclude all electric tankless water heaters.

After reading reviews about Rinnai systems, I can say that it really works great. However, my current electric tankless water heater at home is an Eemax Electric Tankless Water Heater System. Since we are using the system, we noticed an immediate decrease in our electric bill, therefore I can say that this system is really energy efficient and above all it provides hot water in an instant. Actually, the tankless water heater system I used at home is just one of their available products. You can choose according to your desired specifications here: Gadgets Go! IMG_1213.jpgCentrally located tankless water heater wont help with long distance lines. It still has to run all the water in the line out before hot water can arrive. When I built my new house I looked at those and weighed the pros and cons. We had one in a condo in Peru that was right outside the kitchen on a patio with a 100 # propane tank and we used that tank for 3 months before having to replace it. Electric tankless really soak up the electricity and will require more amperage service to your house than the standard 200 amp box as they will use 100 amps alone but still wont help with the long distances from the source.
You need the individual hot water at the source type but they can be expensive also. What I did was have the builder insulate all the water lines with closed cell foam, install a recirculating pump at the hot water heater and a return header from each faucet. All my lines are underground so I don't have the super long runs of going from faucet to attic and back down like most houses. I turn on the faucet and within 3 seconds I have hot water anywhere in the house. If your lines are in the attic, you could still do this at your house and be cheaper than installing a local 110V heater at each faucet especially since most locations don't have 110V power where you will need it.
