Seriously, if taxes keep going up... How will we be able to pay up and still survive? There has to be a breaking point some where?

Billy .
It'll end when everyone has the same as everyone else /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif When everyone is "equal " according to government standards . So , don't work Too hard , or try to improve your standard of living . If you do you might be thought of as one of those that opposes the "Great Society " theme . /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Just stay "average " . Not that it will eliminate taxes altogether ( we will still have to have Minders ) . Not a very eloquent expression of my ideas to be sure . But it's about the best I can do considering my Blue Collar education ,and upbringing .John

Billy,

Maybe we could learn something from the Kiwis. Read this article for some eye-opening ideas from down under.

Here's an excerpt which will hit close to home for those among us living in the country:

( What I have been discussing is really just a new way of thinking about government. Let me tell you how we solved our deer problem: Our country had no large indigenous animals until the English imported deer for hunting. These deer proceeded to escape into the wild and become obnoxious pests. We then spent 120 years trying to eliminate them, until one day someone suggested that we just let people farm them. So we told the farming community that they could catch and farm the deer, as long as they would keep them inside eight-foot high fences. And we haven’t spent a dollar on deer eradication from that day onwards. Not one. And New Zealand now supplies 40 percent of the world market in venison. By applying simple common sense, we turned a liability into an asset. )

I was watching the news tonight...
One of the presidential candidates was in town today.
In his speach, he mentioned that he wanted the federal government to fund a certain school program instead of make each local school district pay for it.
(Notice I'm sticking to my personal rule not to mention specific candidates or political parties in my TBN posts)

That's fine and dandy, but no one realizes whether the local school district funds the program or the federal government funds it, the ones who are ultimately funding it are the taxpayers.

The only thing that changes is the level of taxes (local vs federal) taxes that are funding the program.

It always amazes me when I see the number of people who fall for a line like that and say, "Is that great? The government is going to pay for that!"

Nope, the TAXPAYER is paying for it! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

AHMEN TO THAT : just a matter of who is going to tax you? the fed give u a tax cut(so they say) then cut back on the funds to the state which then cuts back the funds to the county, AND THEY RAISE the tax. Funny thing! with all the tax cuts i have had in my life for the feds, state and county, i still pay a heck of a lot more in taxes lets not forget all the taxes and surcharges on our utilitly bills, just another form of tax. oh yeh don't forget lower taxes mean higher state fees, more for drivers liscense, more for this and that.

You are so right, Andy. If people would just stop and think!

It's the little stuff that always amazes me. We (town/state) need a 1/4% to fund this...we need a 1/2% to fund that. People think "Gosh, that's not much at all". Then one day all those 1/4s and 1/2s start to add up. Then like me, you start wondering "Where Will It End".

Billy, if your taxes went up, you must have had an increase in state taxes, not federal, thay have not gone up in a few years. Even in indebted California, our state taxes stayed the same. For a reality check, go check out taxes in England, Germany and France. It won't make you appreciate our taxes, but it may put things in perspective. I don't question that we overspend and could easily decrease taxes in this country. Elect me president and watch. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

RaT for President /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's not just income taxes (none here in a few years either), it's all the goofy off the wall support this crap taxes. Plus every agency there is has a budget that they can't seem to stay within. So they allocate more money and have to fund it with some goofy off the wall support this crap tax /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
