New to the forum and already have a question.

Got it home. Nice unit. Only problem i have is the pto. This photo was taken with the tiller on the ground. As you can see the pto is way to long.

The pto shaft is 31" from the bolt on the slip clutch, to the end of the pto. If I measure from that bolt to the center line of the tiller pins I get 7". Measuring from the end of the bx pto shaft to the center line of the lower 3-point arms, I get 18". so. 25" would allow me to hook up the pto. this would allow about an inch of gap when level. The shaft will get shorter by about an inch as I raise the arms to full height. Probably get about an inch longer when lowered to working level. By the minimum cuts, i would have to take off about 7". Then the Pto shaft is fully collapsed, there is 12" between the flanges. So in theory, I should be able to cut off 7" and still have 6" overlap. Doesn't seem that way when I look at it as in the photo.

According to the little booklet that comes with the PTO, it states 1/3 the length of the shaft length for overlap. That would be about 2". Not enough in my opinion. I emailed the compnay (Taylor) and they said they require 6".

I didn't think the BX 2350 arms were that much shorter than standard. Any thoughts without adding a quick hitch, which I do NOT want to do. Hooking up a standard 3-point is not time consuming and for only a couple of implements, not worth the $200 for the Pats quick hitch. (any rigid quick hitch won't work because both the tiller and the snow blower are different dimensions and brand new.

I really do not want to have to return this tiller, but unless I can make this work somehow, it will have to go back. I'm going to call the dealer in the morning, but he isn't a Kubota fan. Likes to try and get me to buy one of his Masseys. Told him its the wrong color. I don't think he will have a smaller PTO shaft.

Any thoughts? This isn't the first this has come up with a bx I'm sure.

Thanks for any help.

Welcome!

I cannot post a link here with my phone. Search shorten pto shaft here and it will guide you.

Oh, I would find a new dealer. He does not seen helpful. In a small market like you are in the dealer should help you not drive you away with smart ***** comments about color.

Yes you can shorten the PTO. I had a brush hog at a friends house and he was welding the deck for me. He cut the shaft down and it took a torch to do it. He just torched it shorter and took a grinder to clean up the edges.

I understand I can shorten it, it is the fact, I don't see how I can maintain 6" min. overlap when done and fitted to the bx. I'm wondering what others have done with there bx's. I am sure I'm not the only one with this issue.

thanks!

Get a quick hitch for your tractor northern tools sells them for about 125 dollars makes it easier to hook up equipment and will move tiller about 3 to 4 inches back so your shaft would be longer.

I was looking at the quick hitch from Northern tools, or harbor freight, but this tiller I believe is technically Cat 0. I know it is quite a bit narrower than my snow blower. Also, looked at the Pat's. Like them, just don't need them except for distance. It only takes about 5 minutes to hook a 3-point up anyway. I do think I have this figured out to make work. Simpler if I remove the protection sleeves.

Thanks for the reply.
