looking at adding a TB-Max to my tractor. Dealer says I can use existing hydraulics and dump the fluid straight back into the return, no pto pump needed. I don't know enough about the hydraulics to know if it will cause issues in the long run (foaming, overheating, etc.) to be worth not spending the extra money. For those out there that know hydraulics better than me, any thoughts? Below is the flow rate for my tractor according to their website.

Is the 16.5 GPM total flow including steering or what is available at the control valves?

How are you going to start and stop the cutter head motor? Existing valves on the tractor or some add on required?

I would be a little concerned about over heating the hydraulic system since I doubt your tractor has a heat exchanger sized for continuous motor operation.

Would also require running lines on the loader frame to feed this cutter head. For 16 GPM should be 5/8 to 3/4 ID to reduce line loss heat generation again for continuous duty.

I have a LaneShark FEL-mounted cutter on a DK5310SE, their setup uses a RW Long 3rd function kit that runs the return line separately from their 3rd function, which prevents the overheating.

Before purchasing the LaneShark, I did a lot of research as I too was concerned with overheating the hydraulics. Apparently, previous iterations of the FEL cutter made by a few other companies had issues with overheating as they ran the hydraulic return via the 3rd function which was the primary cause of overheating.

I've used mine approx 60ish hours so far, It handles everything up to 3" with no issue, will go through bigger, but you have to gnaw at it.

My only concern about the TB Max is availability of parts as I believe they dont make them anymore, but I could be miataken.

Hope that helps

Brgds,
Greg

Here are pics of the LaneShark setup, sorry for the mess, just got done doing some brush cutting when it started to rain again this evening.

You'll see the 3rd function lines have 3 lines, the lower right is the dedicated return line used when using the cutter.

The hydraulic flow to the cutter is controlled by a box in the cab, mounted below the joystick.

Not sure how the TB-Max is plumbed, but thought this might help due to similar design

16.5 is total volume, yes and that includes hydrostatic power steering. I have a 3rd function on the rear that I will connect one line to, the other line plumbs straight into the return so no sudden stopping/starting of the blades, just a gentle slow down as pressure dumps off from what was explained to me. I have the same third function control on mine as does AirOpsMgr (thanks for the pics) but just use one side of it with the 2nd dumping into the return when using the TB-Max.

I sent you a PM with some other info & my experiences, if it helps; Didn't want to clog up your thread if it doesn't apply ;)
