TBN Member Personal info obtained by Google!!??

While googling some information yesterday and generally just goofing off after I got what I really needed, I punched in my own name and what a surprise I got!! Under my name, among the other information, up popped my Unclebuck257 handle and the tractorbynet site name. Under that, it then stated ALL the personal info I listed in my profile with TBN back when I originally registered, including my real full name, home address, and my hobbies such as hunting, shooting, etc.

Was TBN hacked or did TBN give out that info to google voluntarily? I belong to several other sites and NONE of them were ever mentioned. What gives with that info being out there, specifically from TBN?? Anybody have any answers or knowledge as to why?

Most of the info, with the exception of my hobbies was out there already, but to say I was surprised, is putting it mildly!

No TBN was not hacked. Anybody can click on your username and see the personal information you provided in your public profile. I just did it myself and it shows your name, etc... I did not see your home address.

A search engine like google crawls the ENTIRE web and saves everything it finds.

Thanks for the reply, and I understand about crawling the web etc. As I said though, I belong to and am an admin or mod in several other sites with the same info in profiles on those sites too, but this specifically listed, in a seperate topic paragraph " tractorbynet, Unclebuck257" as the title of the paragraph, and then went into my real name, full home address and hobbies.

I was just very surprised to find my handle first and then my true idenity under the handle name.

I figured at first that my life at this age was so dull that they had nothing else to put in there, but then got to thinking more about it and wondered "what" and "why", it was just TBN profile info.

I Googled your username and the first link is your member page on TBN, it's not information Google has. I'm confused about what the issue is. With a site that's as popular as TBN, it's not surprising it will go to the top of a Google search when someone searches for a word that would only be found here (and other sites where you use this name).

I also see you on Hunt America and Hunt Talk and a bunch of other sites. Note that you're probably logged into TBN so you see more profile information than I do. I see your real name but for address I only see City/State - the stuff you allow in your public profile. Similar information comes up for the other sites as well, same thing when I Google my name and my various forum IDs.

Yes, web crawlers can view profile information on sites such as TBN. If you look at my profile, you will see spaces between the charachters in my name. They are there to make it difficult for the layman to glean personal information.

Unfortunate, there are people and code that can assemble quite a lot of personal information if they so desire. Best defence is to keep your profile to a minimum, change tidbits of info accordingly, and stay abreast of your digital identity, how and where you share it.

Just like with e-mail address. My newest address that I wanted to be clean has now been screwed up with a lot of spam. I guarded my address and didn't give it to anyone that would spread it around. I don't know how it got out but I'm getting about 50 spams a week and, of course, it's a pain.

I went through about a hundred links with your Unclebuck257 link in it and never saw anything with your full home address.
