TBN\'ers Love Controversy...Just like everyone else

Even tractor owners as generally polite as TNB members like to participate in spirited debate if they are interested in the subject. Proof of this can be found in the threads that generate the most replies in many instances. Controversial threads tend to generate more replies than the typical tractor operating or buying thread.

I think it is just part of human nature. One case-in-point are the threads about how snarky members have driven off veteran TBN members. There were two or three threads like that back to back with 100 plus replies.

Sometimes we even reply to trolls, knowing they are trolls because we are interested in the subject matter. Even moderators and veteran members reply to the trolls sometimes. A recent example was the “Right To Work” thread that got closed. As soon as I saw the title I knew it was a trolled thread, so I looked at it. I have interest in the subject because of my work history and occupation and knowledge of the subject. I thought to myself that I should sound the troll alert, or just ignore it, but then I read the replies and chose to respond anyway. Cooler heads prevailed and sounded the troll alarm and the thread was closed before the thread had a chance to get out of hand. Now, were the subject one that the cooler heads in this particular situation were interested in or passionate about, they may have opted to participate in the thread as opposed to calling the troll’s hand.

My point is that I think we all enjoy controversy to some extent. I do not know of one pure and innocent person who would not participate if the subject matter were of interest. Sometimes, we are the voice of reason when we are not as interested, or are detached from the subject and call for the moderator to close the thread, and other times we jump right into the fray and stir the pudding. That’s just human nature and tractor owning TBN’ers being human, fit right in the controversial human community.

And you notified a moderator, right? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif In fact, some people might consider this a trolled thread. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

None of the modertors assume someone is a troll, specifically new members, we require proof. This individual proved it, in other threads, threads with topics that specifically violated the TOS.

Why is that? There are many threads here that have absolutely nothing to do with tractors. Look at the ongoing "Do You Own a SUV" thread. Does the thread starter own a tractor? I don't know, but it is apparently an interesting enough subject and has by and large been discussed in a civil manner and has been allowed to remain open for several days and 20+ pages now. Would you consider that a trolled thread? If so why? If not why not?

Every tractor owner here at TBN has a life outside tractor ownership and its related subjects, and we are all affected by various life issues. These life issues bear civil, calm discussion, and can be quite fun and entertaining as well as informative.
