I ran over a rock and the part where the hydraulic filter mounts onto the transmission housing broke. A new one from New Holland costs $150.00. I was wondering if anyone here knows if there is a less expensive place to get the part. I looked for the part no. on the Messicks website, but it came back saying it could not be found.

I am attaching a parts diagram and picture of the part. It's part "3" in the diagram. Thanks in advance.

Actually, $150 seems very reasonable for a tractor part that doesn’t get replaced very often. Even more so if your dealer has it in stock.

i would feel lucky if i broke my tractor and it only cost $150 to fix
It is always a lot more when I mess up :)

Since I plan on keeping my tractors for my lifetime I use OEM parts. I use Messick's for parts now that my nearest dealer is 40-50 miles away, depending on which direction I drive. Since I will have to pay for shipping anyway might as well get it shipped to my house. I have not found a dealer that comes off the list price for stock parts. The only time I found a bargain was when something was special ordered and never picked up, like my SSQA face plate. List was $800 but I got it for $400 as it had been sitting there for a year and my dealer was giving up his New Holland line.

Had that same thing happen twice on my NH TC33D. The first time was when it was less than a week old. I was making a drainage swale with my box blade and drove over a large flat rock, which swung up and snapped the filter right off the transmission housing.

Th second time was when I lent the tractor to a friend several years later. He was using it to clear his yard. He drove onto one ends of a 2x4 buried in the grass. The other end popped up to just the perfect height and harpooned the filter and fitting, snapping it off again.

Some years after that, I finally decided to put a belly pan on the tractor, and made sure it would protect that hydraulic filter and fitting.

As others mentioned, I figured I got off cheaply with all that part cost to replace.

I ordered the part from the dealer yesterday. With the gasket and shipping, it came to $200.00. An expensive learning experience, but could have been worse.
