New Holland TC-35D
Here's what happened, I was plowing snow, ran out of fuel. put fuel in, cleaned sediment bowl. Now when I turn the fuel on, the bowl does not fill. With the bowl off, fuel runs very good. Can anyone tell me why? I've opened the bleeder screw as the owners manual says to do. Did not help. Bowl still does not fill.

Leave the fuel bowl loose while letting it fill, once it's full seal it. THEN open the bleeder valve and crank the engine.

Thank you for the information. Did what you said and it started right up. ran poorly for about 20/30 seconds, then cleaned right up. Thanks again.

Glad to hear that.

If you have an operator's manual for your tractor, it should have the procedure for replacing fuel filter/running out of fuel/bleeding air from the fuel system. Lot's of good directions for basic service & maintenance in that manual. If you don't have one, it would be worth tracking one down on amazon or ebay.

Or Google: new holland tc35d operator manual

to find other sources.

I'm not aware of anywhere the operator's manuals are available free on-line. That's really a poor, old-school NH business practice IMO.

I do have the operator's manual, however, it did not mention to leave the bowl loose to fill the bowl completely full. Once I did that, problem solved. Thanks again.

No, I don't think that is in the manual. But it's good you have the manual anyways.

The instructions in the manual and what I've learned on TBN from others is 95% of what I know about my tractor. I wouldn't know where to look for the air bleed bolt without the manual, for example.

My NH 1920 was experiencing fuel problems last month. My 'tractor guy' recommended a fuel filter change and he came over to help as I read on TBN of many air problems when messing with the fuel system. His filter replacement technique worked great, but it's a 2-man job. I sat on the tractor while he carefully unscrewed the filter bowl to remove the spent filter. He put the new filter on the tractor and held the bowl up against the threads without screwing the bowl in. I cranked the tractor at full throttle until fuel came spilling over the top of the filter bowl (onto the ground) and then he screwed the bowl on hand tight until it sealed, all the time keeping the starter engaged. He then cracked open the air bleeder port on the injector pump until fuel spewed, then he closed it. The tractor finally fired and ran extremely rough, even with the throttle wide open. After about 2 minutes at wide open, the tractor RPM started picking up and it slowly smoothed out after all of the air was purged from the lines. Same technique also works good if you run out of fuel. The tractor is running great now.
