TC 40 draw bar

Getting a pull disc this weekend from my dad and I need a draw bar for my TC 40. Can I go to a TSC or Big R and get one? Are there any specific dimensions or other particular items I need to know or is it one size fits all?

Is your tractor missing it's swinging drawbar? That would be my choice for pulling the disc. I don't think a 3PH drawbar would be a good choice because it can float upwards. If you decide to go that way, you may need to secure the arms so they won't go up. If you have them chained down, don't make a mistake and raise your lift lever because it will put the hydraulics in bypass.

As to the drawbar, any Cat I drawbar should work fine. They are pretty much all the same, but you may also need a drawbar lock to keep the drawbar from twisting in addition to something holding the 3PH lift arms down. 3PH drawbars are so much more complicated and less safe than swinging drawbars.

Jinman, thanks for the quick response.

Based on memory - tractor is on the farm. On the back side, I have the 3 pt connections. Underneath the PTO shaft I have what I will describe as a plate sticking out with a hole that looks like it could mount a hitch. Not sure if this is what you are referring to as the swinging hitch so please let me know. If it is, what else do I need from a hardware standpoint.

Yes, that plate is the swinging drawbar. It has pins on each side of it to hold it centered, but it can also have one pin removed and be positioned to one side or the other.

Is the disc a regular ball mount or a fork type ag hitch that goes over and under the drawbar? If it's a ball hitch, measure the holes and thickness of the drawbar and purchase or find a trailer ball in the right size for the disc. If it's an fork type hitch. You'll have to use a hitch pin based on the size of the hole in the disc's hitch. A regular Cat 1 or Cat 2 toplink pin may work.

I'm attaching a picture of me installing remote valves on my tractor. I've included it because you can see the drawbar and ball hitch I have. There are many configurations that will work. You just have to know what the hitch is on the disc.

Jim, I was glad to see the 6x6 wedged into your floor jack. Simpler than a stand and better outdoors anyway.

Yep! The jack has never failed me, but when I get under something, I realize it only has to fail once to be a catastrophe. I made sure that it would only drop about 2" if it failed. I had forgotten doing that until you pointed it out. That's been a few years and several pounds ago.

Ya, nothing to mess with. My favorite great uncle died on my 10th birthday. A week earlier he had been working under a car, when something happened to the jackstand. Man, I cried that day. Still makes me tear up 36 years later.

He did have jackstands under there. I am not sure what actually happened, but my grandmother said something broke. I was only 10, so I am not sure.

I know I don't mess around; I have heavy duty jackstand, as well as a stack of cribbing on the side of the garage. Learned that one from the fire dept; I have 1x4, 2x4, 4x4, 2x6, and 4x6 blocks 16" long.
