New Holland TC40A
I changed my hydraulic filter on my TC-40A (w/Hydro drive) last year and ever since, it seems that the hydraulics have been sluggish and weaker. I noticed when I changed the filter that the old filter was a larger diameter than the new one that I got from the NH dealer. I double checked the part number and it was the correct filter. The only thing I can think of is that the previous owner found an oversized filter that had better flow. Has anyone one seen this before? Anyone know where can I find an oversized filter? (this is the main filter next to the RH rear wheel)

My TC40 is an 01 (ish) and I've gone thru many fluid changes. During one of those changes I noticed the change in size on that filter. Called to check, yep, size changed. In their infinate wisdom, NH made that filter smaller. Doesn't seem right to me.

If you had the larger filter on that unit then it's been on there a few years. Wish I could find that older, larger size.

Wait a minute--I just reread your last line (I skim and scan when I should read). The one I'm talking about is up front, left side. The one on the rear is a heafty one, -----------time passes, Fred goes out to garage and grabes the hydro filter only to find two different sizes on shelf --one big black one marked "STRAINER SBA340500920 and the other one, not as tall and white, marked 87300046.

Looked both those numbers up and the SBA one is correct but can't find the 87300046 one. Another curve ball by N.H. Gotta make some phone calls tomorrow.

Found it over at Messicks. The 87300046 is replaced by the SBA340500920.

jc, which one do you have? AND, is the old one a N.H. filter?

The 87300046 is replaced by the SBA340500920.

Both of those filters are very close, if not exactly the same size. Functiionally, they are interchangeable, and there is no New Holland filter correct or physically larger than those part numbers to be used on a Class III chassis.

I do not have the tractor here with me (it's out at my brother's farm) so I don't have the part number handy. Unfortunately, I threw the old filter out last year. Now I'm kicking myself because I really want another like it. Maybe it is coincidence, but the tractor starting running hotter after that filter change too.

Ok, I had a chance to look at the filter tonight. It is a NH part 87300043 (white). When looking at the filter from underneath, the filter is about 1/2" smaller diameter than the seal flange O.D. If anyone still has the older filter (the black one), is it about the same size as the seal flange or smaller?

Somewhere , somehow , I think filters got crossed. That filter is for a smaller tractor like a TC30.

The two filters I mentioned earlier (87300046 (white), SBA340500920(black)) are the correct filters and they fit perfectly. They stand about 7.5" and have a diameter of about 4.25". As Caliche stated, the one you have is not the correct filter.
