Tc 40 won't start

Hello all,

Have a tc 40 2001 or 2002 that won't start. Last week did the same thing I turn the key the pre heater light battery and the oil light come on as usual but when I crank they all go out. I jumped it and got it going last week so I put a new battery as the old one was about 6 years old so I figured I it was bad. We'll last night went to move the tractor and same deal. Lights come on but as soon as I crank to start I get a hum noise and than silence. Reset same deal agsin. Put a charger on the battery over night same results. A noise like a hum from the starter area but don't even crank. every time I do it get the hum and than silence Not sure where to go next. Bad starter? some sort of reley? Any help would be great thanks

You might test the starter in place with a jumper cable from battery to the main lug on the starter.
(Starter brushes may be worn out.)

That you hear a hum suggests that the ign switch is ok. After that it's likely a solenoid or relay.
'Got manual' for the wiring diagram if you need it?

One thing you might try while someone activates the starter is to tap the starter with a hammer to see if it engages. Also when they turn the key to start, you should feel the solenoid shift. If it doesn't, solenoid problem, if it does, the brushes may be shot. Just for your info, there are all kinds of NH starter repair/rebuild kits listed in ebay.

Figured it out. Tried a jumper cable from the battery to the starter main lug like the old grind said up above and bam started right up. So I took both ends of the battery cabe off positive and negative and clean up some the corrosion and it starts right up. Thanks
