According to NH tech sheet all three models have 4 cylinder (135 cubic inch) blocks, So I assume that it is the same block, just tweaked a little different to get more power.

I know there is going to be a difference in fuel consumption with more HP.

Looking for the Average Hours between refuels for the 3 different models.

Just curious if the 55 is sucking a lot more than the 45 or 48 ????

I'm sure that the fuel consumption between the 45 and the 48 is almost the same. The 55 of course is slightly higher. You don't get power for free. Both the 48, and 55 have more weight of the heavier frames to move, so their consumption is a bit higher for that. I doubt you will find any of them to be all that thirsty. When I was looking at tractors, I went and saw a new Kioti DK45C, with Rhino loader that a friend's, friend had. He said that the fuel comsumption was a vast improvement over his 20 plus year old John Deere he traded in. He reply to my asking about fuel use, was to not even concern myself about that, the fuel efficenity improvements on the newer engines was that great. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I do wonder what these tier 3 requirements are going to be tho?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Electronic controlers over the injection pumps???? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I'm not real sure yet, but so far my TC55DA seems to be pretty reasonable on fuel consumption. The fuel gauge is not real accurate though. It seems to work pretty hard most of the day on a tank.

I know this doesn't directly help you.. but my 7610s gets about 3 hours of work on 5 gallons of fuel. That's 3 hours at pto rpm, on a 10' mower, and some added front weights.. and that is about a 95 hp machine. Has a 20g tank. How big is your tank. My guess is you should be able to get a 'usefull' days work on a 'tank'.

Our TC-40D uses bout 3/4 gallon per hour at 2600 RPM. The TC-45 shouldn't be much higher.

I recently filled up the tank and noted that I was using between 3/4 and 1 gal per hour working at 2500 rpm doing heavy loader work. I didn't make a really accurate measurement, but my impression is pretty close to your findings of 3/4 gallon per hour. Slightly higher under hard work conditions...

The TC48 is probably closer to the 1 gph figure because it's injector pump is tuned to give more horsepower and torque.

With a turbo, the TC55 should get similar fuel use until it is put under load and the exhaust temp goes up and drives the turbo faster. At that time the fuel economy should drop as the HP and torque produced by the engine goes up. That's the effect of the turbo coming up on boost.

Edit: I guess to answer the original poster's question, with the 13.5 gal tank on the TC40/45, you can work cosistently up to 16 hours with medium duty work. You might be able to continue, but if you are working on uneven terrain, the gravity feed of the fuel is going to be unreliable when the tank gets down to the last gallon or so.

There may not be much if any difference between these models in identical work - dig far enough and you'll probably find a number related to "fuel used per horsepower hour". At their *rated maximum* no doubt the 48 and 55 will use more fuel than the 45 because they can generate more power - but if all three tractors are putting out the same power to handle the same load under the same conditions (say an equal sized brush hog cutting the same field at the same speed) then the fuel usage should be very similar. Some differences in the details no doubt, different sized frames and probably subtle differences in the individual engine efficiencies, but essentially similar.

Just as I do with my vehicles, I keep track of fuel I buy for the tractor, but instead of writing down the mileage, I write down the hour reading when I fill my three, 5 gallon containers. Before filling them, I always fill up the tank on the tractor. Over the 300 hours I have on my TC25D, I am averaging .5 gallon per hour. As others have noted, how many gallons/hour you burn is a function of what you're doing with the tractor and whether you can go an entire day without re-filling is a function of how big the tank is. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

With about double the horsepower of my TC25D, I'd imagine the 3 tractors you're looking at would average a gallon/hour.

I've got 129 hours on my meter.
I received the tractor full of fuel.
The TC55 also has a 13.5 gal. tank.
I get four fillups out of a full 55 gal drum.
I've filled up the drum twice and have one refill left.
I also remember putting in 5 gal. from a jug when I first got it.
I know my neighbor put in 10 gal. when he used it once.

So let's see that's...
13.5 gal.
5.0 gal.
10.0 gal.
55.0 gal.
40.5 gal.
-------------
124 gal. used in 129 hours = 1.04 HPG

13.5 gal tank X 1.04 G HPG = 14.04 hours per tank. (TC55DA)

I would say this is conservative since I've done very little shredder work. Most of the work has been in the 1800-2200 rpm range.

The first barrel of fuel I bought at 1.36/gal. The second barrel was 1.86/gal. When diesel was selling at $3.10 gal at the station I was able to use the cheaper stuff. Now that fuel is dropping again it will be time to refill my barrel again. Being able to store some fuel allowed me to "ride out" the peak fuel prices. I guess it's a matter of timing. It could of just as easily been the other way around.

Have a goodun' ya'll

Thanks guys, for all the input , it has been very helpful, especially Oscando.

About the 55 Gal Drum, is that is just an old oil drum?

Did you coat the inside with anything to keep Rust from forming, up high as the Fuel Level drops, and possible condensation develops ?

Thanks.
