Good Thread. I would have to say 1 gallon per hour does seem right. I dont keep as meticulous records as the others, but the 1 gallon per hour sure does seem right for my 55. Will work some good hours on each tank of gas.

Oscando, about the 55 gal drum, do you have a Fuel Truck come out and fill the Barrel, or do you make trips with cans and fill at the Station then fill the drum.

I was wondering if a Fuel Truck would be reluctant to fill a Barrel, They may say that it is not an approved Fuel Storage container , or something.

Thanks

Our local fuel company will sell fuel by the 55g barrel. Just go to the depot and pick em' up.

"There may not be much if any difference between these models in identical work " ....that's pretty much what I found, timb.

Whether pulling a 6' bushhog with both my old Ford 4000 (55HP) or my new Kubota L4300 (45HP), fuel consumption is about 1.3 to 1.4 GPH with PTO speed between 400 and 500 RPM.

At the bottom of all this is something called the specific fuel consumption given in lbs. of fuel consumed per hour per HP generated. For a diesel in good condition not being pushed to its utter limits, I think the figure is .39 lbs of fuel is burned per hour per HP. As I recall a gallon of diesel fuel weighs between 6 and 7 lbs, but not sure of the exact figure. The difference comes when the tractors are pushed to their limit. In that case, the TC55 will naturally burn the most because it's capable of generating the most HP.

Doing the math seems to indicate that my tractors were loafing.

When empty I put the drum in my pickup truck and stop by the fuel distributor on the way home from work. It just happens to be on the way. I fill the barrel then when I get home, I unload it from my truck with the FEL. I have one of those cheap crank pumps to dispense the fuel with. I actually got the fuel barrel from the distributor for $20 but I've heard you can get them for free from some places.

I have the barrel on a small dolly so I can push it around if I need to. I don't suck all the fuel out of the barrel. I leave a little at the bottom. I figure this will have the most trash in it. Maybe when I finish this barrel, I dump the remnants and see what's in there. My future plans are to build a stand so I can just put it on top of the stand with my FEL and let gravity do the work. I don't use enough fuel to really warrant spending $100s for a 500 gal. elevated tank and it sure beats refilling with 5 gallon jugs.

Search for "fuel" "storage" and you'll get lots of ideas on this forum.

I use my tc-29 normally 8 to 10 hours per day when working it. It has a 7.2 gal. tank; do mainly FEL work and backhoe work in the 2200 to 2400 rpm range. I get about .75 gal per hour on the avg. I believe CHN has figured the fuel consumption pretty well as if you read the above mentioned threads no matter what the operator is doing with the machine fuel consumption remains fairly constant. I really don't see a big difference when I work the unit "hard" or "mild". I use mine for pleasure and business and I figure 1 gal. per hour when I do estimates since I now add a fuel surcharge of $1.00 per gal since prices went thru the roof. I hope I can eliminate it shortly as prices are beginning to fall. I also have estimated that the unit costs me approx. $1.00 per hour for maintainance. It now has 1100 hours on it and I have about $1100.00 in maintainance bills which include fluid changes and breakdown repairs. Anyone else have notes that I may compare to.

I have about 115 hours now on my TC55DA and I am getting roughly 1gal/hour as well for the most work. With my snow blower attached, I'll get about 1.1 - 1.3 gal/hour. That depends on how heavy the snow is and how many snow drifts I got.
