TC Equivalent to a 1920

I've got a '98 1920 MFWD, GST and I'm just curious what the current equivalent TC model would be. I bought the 1920 used a couple months ago with less than 200 Hrs. on it, FEL and 757C Backhoe with a tandem trailer for $18,000. I think I got a fair deal, not a steal, not too much. I suspect the equivalent TC would run me about $23K to replace. Also, since I got the last model ( I think) before the TC series came online, what are the primary differences between the newer TC's and my older 1920? Just curious and I have found TBY to help me out quite a bit.

The 1920 is basically the same as a TC35. Length, width, wheelbase, tire size, weight, etc are all about the same. 1920 has 33 HP, while the TC35 has 35 HP.

However, the 1920 has a 4 cylinder, 121.7 cu in. engine, while the TC35 has a 3 cylinder, 101 cu in. engine. You don't get a 4 cylinder in the TC series until you go up to a TC40 (one of the more popular reasons people have given for bumping up a size from the TC35).

Last July I was quoted $20,170 for a TC35D w/filled R4 tires and FEL (the 35D has HST transmission, I'd guess subtract about $1600-1800 for the TC35 w/GST). These prices were with no negotiation, my guess is you could get up to a couple thousand off these prices from a "hungry" dealer. (I ended up buying a TC33D... needed the smaller frame to get in to some tight spaces).

You've heard the old saying "They don't make 'um like they used to..."

You have one such unit... the 2120 is another...

With some tweaking of the pump, you can be a TC40 and do about 35 PTO HP... you have more torque than a TC35, and I believe your diesel engine is a rare direct injection that is more fuel efficient than an equivalent indirect injection...

The only "slight" weakness is the hydraulics on the 1920 with considerably less hydraulic hp than the newer TC units... where they shine {for a compact}, and maybe the ergonomics are somewhat dated compared to the newer TC series {only to be expected}…

So all in all, I would compare yours more to the TC40 (with a detuned pump and less hydraulics), and the price you paid for the total package was very very good (less than 200 hrs. like buying a rental unit)…

What would a TC40 gear, backhoe, loader package go for, about $27-30K?…

John, You've made me feel good this morning. I have noticed, particularly with the backhoe, that it could stand to have a little extra power when digging. Is there a safe way to increase the hydraulic power without damaging other systems? I've already got about 800 feet of trench dug and it would be nice to have some extra when I hit those rocky spots. Perhaps there is a thread out there that already discusses this concept, or would I be better off discussing with the NH man?

Todd, I'd have to agree with John. I think the 1920 is more comparable to the TC40 and 40D in many ways. To me, it kind-of falls between the 35 and 40. Another way to look at it is, the engine in the 35 falls between that found in the 1720 and 1920 from a displacement standpoint. Obvously, there getting more hp out of all these new engines.

Glad you asked... and your wish is our command.../w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Presto... just add a Prince PTO driven hydraulic pump for the backhoe... more hydraulic power than you can probably use, you install yourself {simple slide on...}, about $300. investment... easy to take off when detaching the bh and installing a 3-point PTO driven implement...
