I'm trying to bury a small wire in the ground, say 3" deep. The sub soiler shown on pg. 3 of the Tractor Supply Blue Book 3-point attachments seemed just right for the job. I got it home 2 days ago and still haven't been able to connect it properly to my TC21D hitch. The implements that I have now (mower, bushog) have used an adjustable top link connection, but the one that I have is too long for use with this sub soiler. It seems that I should connect it to the top link by some means, but haven't determined what to use. Looked like a leveling assembly was the answer, but that also was too long. Anyone else have this issue? I'd sure like to get this wire in the ground, although with the soil so dry, this may not help all that much! Thanks for the replys

Would this wire be for an invisible fence for pet containment? I would guess without knowing what this sub soiler looks like that it may simply tie right into your upper point without any link. If it is hydraulic, you would remove the cylinder, if it is a manual screw type, you remove it and tie it in directly to the upper point, much like a post hole digger hooks up. Thats just my guess. Good luck, Rat...

Does it look like this? Painted red? We need a little more info, I think.

Maybe you are trying to hook this implement up at too high an angle (too close to vertical). Subsoilers are designed to attack the ground at a fairly sharp angle so that they self feed. I would try this- Tuck the point of the implement under the tractor, hook up the (lower) draft links, and raise the 3-point all the way up. If the top link is now too short, it may be that the implement is too tall for your tractor. If the subsoiler is resting on it's heel instead of the point, maybe you do need a shorter top link. Dunno, like Jim says, I think we need more info.

Folks, Your posts got me to try a couple ways of mounting this. After deleting the top link adjuster and hooking directly to the upper point, I was able to mount this adequately. I still think it may be slightly too tall, because I need to adjust the hitch to its' highest travel point. Tried burying the wire last night and where the ground was softer than most and the implement was able to find the angle that it wanted, the trench was made with ease. Other areas it was only able to scrape the sod and perhaps 1/2" add'l. I think it's time to shorten this by ~5" so that it fits my tractor better. I'll let you all know the results. Thanks for the responses.

corwin, when I did electrical work if the ground was to hard to dig we used to scratch out channel an 1" or so deep and let it soak for a while.Sence we were digging by hand it usually helps but does increase the mess factor....I'm glad you bout one of those du hickies...I've been considering one....
