Would like some info from tc21d owners? My tc21d seems to smoke a lot so much so that the loader brkt is covered. Dealer claims normal. Power and performance seems ok. Low hours only 135hrs. Any opinions?

I have a TC18 and my loader bracket is black from soot. The only time I see smoke is when I first start it when it's cold and then only a quick puff.
I never see any smoke when I am working it cold or warm.
Are you seeing smoke or are you seeing a buildup of soot on the bracket?

Sounds just like my TC21D. I get some smoke under load and it can really blacken the loader frame. But I'd say it smokes less than all of the other diesels I have every worked with. The times I see the most smoke is when I'm doing loader work of course, when the loader is not on and I am mowing or scrapeing the drive I almost never notice any smoke.

There's still much I don't know about diesel exhaust. When I had a B7100 Kubota with a vertical exhaust pipe, never noticed visible smoke hardly at all, but the loader arm on that side soon turned black. Now I have a B2710 with the exhaust coming out down low where it looks to me like it would get even more on the loader arm, but no sign of blackening after 250 hours./w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Mine has soot on the bracket as well I think that is normal, due to exhaust location. I get a small puff when I start a cold engine. I wouldn't be concerned unless excessive. In that case may need some adjustment.

I am under the assumtion all diesel engines smoke some. More so when under load and start up. Ever been behind a tractor trailor? Kinda like a 2 stroke motor cycle engine. When the smoke stops thats the time to worrie. Diesel fuel has oil in it...right?

I SEEM TO SEE SMOKE MOST OF THE TIME , IF YOU RUN IT AT NIGHT TIME WITH LIGHTS ON YOU CAN SEE SMOKE MOST OF THE TIME. ALWAYS SEEMS TO HAVE SOME .
COMPARED TO MY PREVIOUS 1220 THIS SEEMS TO BE WORSE

Your TC21 sounds like my 1220. There's nothing wrong with it.
Ford NH tractors are noisier and smoke more/w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif , also they make a nice rattling noise from the tranny .
I'm finally used to all the wierd sounds and smells. Now we are happy together as One./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Diesel like all gas is derived from crude oil, comes off well before gas in the cracking off process. It has a little more BTU's per unit of fuel and weighs almost a pound more per gallon. Just because a diesel doesnt smoke most definitely does not mean there is a problem at all. Quite the contrary in fact. You are running clean, cool and have a well designed diesel. The new diesels from International, Cummins and Isuzu exhibit very little smoke. They are atomizing fuel better and using sensors to adjust the diesel injection amount depending on enviromental factors such as altitude, temperature and load. Unlike gas engines that run hot on a lean mixture, diesels will run cool on a lean mixture. If you run to rich a mixture in a diesel it will overheat the exhaust sytem. Smoke on Shibura (sp) the engines New Holland buys and puts in their small tractor engines seems to be a inherent. I have a 2120 that smokes a bit under a load. It does not bother me except for the smell. The loader is discolored from the smoke. In the very near future I am sure restrictions on the emissions from tractors will come under tighter EPA regulation.

Mines brand new and im gettin some smoke, but not bad. The loader arm blackens up. i just clean it. she wont rust there thats for sure. I have been hammerin on her too. Been clearing cattails and brush. This is my first tractor and she is a bute. I luv it. Ill be workin it and my wife sits watchin singin...She thinks my tractor's sexy...ha ha. I hope she thinks the rest of my implemants are sexy too that i plan on buying...he he he. Well im going out to clean her up and check for any leaks. I ran it hard today. Has anyone had any problems workin this model. TC21D. I have turf tires on it and it hasent stopped yet. Ive had to use my loader bucket to get myself out of trouble a few times...but thats the beauty of the bucket...right? When you push her into posi 4-w there aint much stopin it. that loader prety much crushes anything in its path...well almost.
Later all Larry
