I'm new to this site but it seems great so far.

I'm looking to purchase a compact tractor in the $11K range. I was leaning towards the TC21D when I noticed the TC30 for the same price. The TC30 isn't a boomer but an economy model. Does anyone know anything about the durability or manufacturing of the TC30? Which tractor would you recommed for mowing 4-5 acres and some plowing? Thanks for the advice.

Diesel,

i don't think the TC21D vs TC30 is an apples to apples comparision. (or would that be blueberry to blueberry/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif?).

tc21d tc30
engine displacement 61.3 91.3
engine horsepower 21 30
pto horsepower 16 24
hydraulic output 4.9 6.1
3 point lift capacity 1265 1635
mid pto optional (i think) standard (with hydro)
weight 1535 2300

the tc30 is built on the old 1520 frame, which New Holland produced from 87 till 96. both are manufactured by Shibauru in Japan. i haven't seen one of these yet, but it seems like a whole lot more tractor for the money.

as far as mowing goes, more hp means a larger cutting deck which means faster mowing. and as for plowing, heavier is better.

if you get a chance to look at the tc30 up close relay your impressions to us.

regards,

charlie

I'm in the business of NH shopping now. I was considering the TC29 vs the TC30. I looked at both of them today, and here's my impressions of both:

TC29(D) - Great tractor! Well-designed operator station, plenty of power for light-duty plowing, shredding, grading, etc., and a nice price to boot. Personally, I think the 'D' series is superior to the standard offering due to the included creature comforts and HST.

TC30 - Hmmmmm.....good pricing, plenty of power, and a live rear PTO standard (vs transmission driven). I really was sold on it...until I actually saw it. The operator station was not very well designed at all. On the TC29, the controls are very easy to reach and are easy to understand (for dummies like me anyway!) I'm a really simple kinda guy. If I can't figure out how to use something quickly, chances are I probably won't use it much. Another thing that rubbed me wrong was the 30 used metal for the 'hood' as opposed to plastic on the 29. I'm hard on my tools and the less sheet metal there is to bend and bangup, the better they look. I know...that's a silly thing to be critical about, but it's how I feel about it.

The price difference vs the available features between the 2 tractors was not enough to convince me that the 30 was the better buy. I have decided to go for the 29. All I need to do now is convince the wife into a 29D :)

I hope this helps anyone out there looking at the 30.

Happy tractoring!

hi shakman,

welcome aboard.

I stopped and looked at the TC30 earlier this week and pretty much came to the same conclusion as you. It looked real good on paper, but the machine I looked at just didn't impress me as much as I had expected it to.

The dealer had a TC29 with the shifter on the dash (like the TC30) and the price difference between the two was only a few hundred dollars.

Massey Ferguson is coming out with a 14xx line and they already have a 1433v and a 1440v out, which are value models of the MF1250 adn MF1260 tractors. The specs look pretty good. I can't wait to see one in person.

good luck on the tractor hunt and if you figure out how to get the wife on board, please, let me know.

later,
