hi all, as most of you know, im new to this site and to owning a new holland, i thank you all for helping me with my first post on this site.
i have owned my new holland since march 5th, and have had some oil leaks that the dealer took care of for me.
ive noticed that when i put the tractor in high range, it has a hard time moving on dirt or even going from the edge of my drive to my lawn, i tried it on pavment and it works fine, im not sure if its just the way it works, or if some thing is slipping? like i said this is all new to me. i just want to know if its normal before my 90 days are up... could it be that the gearing is so high that it will not travel over soft or lawn area ? it almost acks like it would if you put a 6x6 timber in front of the tires, bogs right down and doesnt want to move, ive tried to raise the rpm, and it didnt help.... thanks guys !

I had a TC24DA and noticed the high range was only good for smooth flat or down hill traveling. I don't know if it would make a differance if you are in 4wd or 2wd... maybe try 2wd? My understanding is most of the power from the hydro trans is in the first part of the pedel, so I would gradually push to get going. To floor it does not help to get rolling. I spent most all of my time in the low range gear. To go a little faster I would run above 2k rpms. In the low that thing could go over and up anything. That is a great tractor you have! The 24 I had can do most of what my new 40 does but just takes two to three times longer. I miss how manuverable and easy it was to get around.

Hi,

We have a 1215 Hydrotrans with a 17 HP diesel and it goes very well in High and Low. Nearly everything is done in high until I feel it straining then I shift to low. Almost sounds like your parking brake is set. I would scoot as fast as I could to a dealer and try another tractor of the same model. I would guess something is not right.

Keep in mind that with a hydro the pedal is actually "changing gears" -- pushing it further is equivalent to shifting to a higher gear ratio. When you move into the soft grass, the tractor has to work harder than on the driveway. Back off on the pedal and see if you go a little better.

My Case has a 3 range tranny. I have found the high range basically useless except on the road and sections of my driveway, and then only if there are no serious hills.

Scag,

just wondering if your driving on hilly terrain or just on level ground. I had a DX24 before upgrading to my 33. Doesn't sound normal at all to me unless your mashing the pedal instead of letting off when the rpm start to drop. Or going uphill. My 24 had two ranges, low and high. While high was not suitable for digging with the FEL, I did on many occasion mow my yard in both low and high depending on the terrain. Even used high on a regular basis with a loaded FEL to move from the dirt pile to where I was droping it. Going up a more than a slight grade was another story though, not much use for high range then. I'm assuming your 21 is a scut, could be wrong, but still wouldn't think it would be a whole lot different from my 24.

I have a gear TC21 and I can and do run in high range on mostly flat ground. I have been able to run through some high grass and start on soft ground without too much problem.
