I'm considering purchasing a TC24 DA with FEL, 60" MMM, and backhoe. This tractor will be my primary mower so it will be cutting grass almost weekly. I've heard some rumors that it is difficult to switch between the backhoe and MMM on this tractor. Is this true? Does anyone do this on a regular basis? What is involved? If it is too difficult to switch, then I'm afraid it will discourage me from using the BH as much as I should, and therefore wouldn't be worth the BH purchase.

Thanks in advance for your help as I need to decide soon between the TC24 DA and the Kubota B7610.

Even if the BH were a "5 minute job" and the MMM were a "5 minute job" I would hate to have to do it every single week. Fact is, if you're anything like me, you will leave the mower on and only put the BH back on when you got enough work lined up for it. I don't mow with my BH tractor so I don't have to worry about it, but heck, most of the times I use the BH, it's because it's sitting there on the tractor and all I have to do is turn around.

That said, if you do plan to use your tractor this way and you have a fair number of shorter jobs with the BH, I'd invest some time in setting up dollies and techniques so the switch was fast and easy, kind of like a pit crew of one.

Remember, you will probably want to drop the FEL for mowing as well.

The backhoe sub frame mounts in the same place as the MMM hardware. It is NOT a 5 minute job. It is likely an Hour or more job to change out between the two.

Not sure of the setup on the Kubota. Definitely have the dealer step you thru the process before you sign on the dotted line.

Other option is a rear finish mower. If you've got wide open spaces this could be a nice option. Lots of trees or obstacles & I'd stay with the MMM.

If you've got the space, you may be able to pick up a used mini-excavator for similar money to the backhoe.

cdaledave89, I was looking very hard at the TC24 earlier this year also, along with the Kubota 7610. I wanted to set it up the same with a BH, FEL, MMM. One thing that I did not like about the TC was that you could not change between the BH and MMM easily at all, In fact the dealer discouraged it. You have to remove the mounting brackets for the BH inorder to install the MMM. (not very easy unless you have a 3/4 inch impact gun and compressor around to remove the "locktited" bolts, his words and the shop manager's words) Even if you use a rear mount mower you still have lower ground clearance because of the BH mounts under the tractor hang down. I do agree with Cliff Johns, get yourself some dollies to put your BH on, it makes installing and removal SO much easier, plus you can move it around in your garage. (if that is where you are keeping everything) As for regretting about buying a BH, I dont have any. It was the best purchase we made, we have found so many things we can do with it, ditches, stump and stone removal, tree removal, etc... To make things easier we bought the Kubota 7610 and have not had any problems with it . Every two weeks I remove the BH and put on the MMM to do my mowing (approx 8 acres) and when I'm done I put the BH back on. It takes me approx. 8 minutes to take the BH off and 13 minutes to put it back on.(with the use of the dollies) The MMM takes about 5 minutes each way. I also found on the TC that because I am tall, 6' 5", I cound not sit on the TC very comfortably for any amount of time. But both machines are very good in their own right so good luck to you in your decision. Before you buy go to each dealer and have them let you drive the tractors for awhile around the lot to get the feel of each model, there are some BIG differences between the two. View over the steering wheel, loader, hood, your shoulder backing up, step on height, seat height/ comfort. Again Good luck and please let us know mhich way you went. Oh, DUH, I forgot to mention that the Kubota uses the 3 point hitch to mount the backhoe, so you do not loose any ground clearance as the TC does. You can either get the backhoe to hook into the tractors hyd. system or use a separate pump that goes on to the rear PTO shaft. (more $$$) Hope this helps. I wanted BLUE but got Orange instead because of ease of use and price. John
