Does anyone else have trouble with this sensor when it's cold? When it's not below freezing all is well, but when the weather gets real cold for a long time I start having trouble with it. I can't start the tractor. I have to move the lever back and forth a whole bunch, then if I move it a tiny bit 1/4" it will kick over. I see there is an adjust ment on the bar the wheel runs over, but it barely moves any from the Neutral position to the cold weather starting position?

Any suggestions? I will try and adjust it a bit, but has anyone else dealt with it.

Dave, I've got the same tractor and have not had any problems with the lever. I'm going to guess that something simply came loose in the linkage. Take a look to see if anything is loose and tighten it up.

I'm with Bob. I've got a 24 as well. I've not had any problems with the neutral sensor. Seems to work just fine. I bet you have something loose or there is dirt or something on the switch. I'm surprised with the mud and stuff that I run in that I haven't pulled any of the wires loose on mine. So far so good - knock on wood.:p

Yep, sometimes I have move the lever slightly so it will start. Stupid safety switches, I need to bypass them all. Already jumped the on on the seat!

Please be careful; bypassing safety switches can cause injury to you or worse; a bystander. Have your safety switch adjusted properly; then you can only start it in nuetral.

I agree, thanks for looking out for my safety. I'm just used to the old days before all of this safety crap.

Actually, I sometimes have problems with the tractors in the showroom. Its actually more my fault than the tractor's though. I go to start the tractor to rearrange things and it wont start or it beeps at me.

I check the range lever, nothing, then I check the clutch pedal all the way down?, nothing, oops, the PTO is on, nothing......jeepers...I spend more time chasing levers around and wiggling levers and pedals I almost wonder if it will ever start! :0

What I am getting at is there are several factors that will effect the starting of the tractor. You may think its the range lever when it might actually be a frozen seat switch or pedal switch. A good shot of WD40 or silicone spray on the switches will help drive the moisture out and maybe help the problem.

If it happens again, first thing, is it still under warranty? Call the dealer and have them look at it. If not, try to narrow it down to the exact problem and make sure its the range lever and not one of the other switches.

I will check with my service department tomorrow to see what input they might have to help and follow-up then.

Thanks,
Larry

Larry,

Yeah thats funny about sitting on tractor moving this, jiggling that trying to get it started.

Furthermore,

The only problem I had with any safety feature was the seat switch. Although it never failed, it was the function of it. For example, if the tractor was in neutral and the parking brake was not set, when I got off it shut down the engine. Now, to me this was not practical when using the backhoe. The FEL bucket was dug in and anchored as well as the outriggers on BH. There was no chance of the thing moving. Dig for a while, get off and check something, or shovel by hand, get on, get off, etc. I usually leave it in neutral and use to hoe to move forward to dig more (of course that too is not reccomended by the mfg!) Too much of a pain, so I jumped the seat safety switch so I can leave the **** thing in neutral while using the hoe.

I worry more about getting hurt/being exposed to a communicable disease at work than I do about some stupid safety feature on my tractor.

Thanks guys. The tractor is 4yrs old so warrenty might be over;) I've had trouble with the seat switch already. It definatley is the Range lever switch. Maybe I will just change it out and see how things go. It's warming up a bit so it may not be an issue till next winter.
