I have a TC24D , and it's gotten to where sometimes it will only start with the parking brake set, and dies when brake is released, but after a few minutes(sometimes) it will still run without the brake set. I bought it about 4 yrs ago, and the original seat had been changed out, and the seat switch has been bypassed I guess. Any suggestion on what to check ?

Thanks,
JCalk

My guess is the bypass for the seat switch. It isn't always by-passing thus requiring the parking brake to be set as the parking brake is required to be set if not in the seat.

I agree. I would check the bypass "short."

If the tractor is in neural, and the parking brake is set, the seat switch does not have to closed for it to run. If the parking brake is off and you are sitting on tractor it will run.
I would check the range selector safety switch and the parking brake switch. I know the parking switch has adjustment slots in the switch.

I found that bypassing the seat switch on my TC29DA would work sometimes but other times it would shut the engine down when moving the range shift out of neutral. My conclusion was that there is some electronic logic involved.
Worked fine when I took the tape off that was holding the seat switch in the "seated" position.

Can you unplug the switch out of the harness and ohm it out to make sure the switch is closing? A ohm reading on this closed switch should be less than 5 ohms. Also check the little metal tab on the back of the seat is not bent up and not fully pushing down on the switch.

Just to clarify, when you are seated on the tractor everything works fine? If this is true, does the problem only happen when you are not seated on the tractor?

First rule of troubleshooting, if you messed with something, put it back the way it was from the factory and see if it works then :) In this case, unbypass the presence switch.
