I have 100 hours on my 24da tractor as of yesterday. I have noticed that the loader will leak down when it sits for a while. It may have done it all along without me noticing. I have measured just under 1 inch in 25 minutes. Is this acceptable? What would an acceptable leak down rate be if any? Thanks, Gregp

My own opinion; 1 inch in 25 minutes is acceptable on a loader; I'm assuming the thing isn't running during that 25 minutes.

If it's running, then it shouldn't drop a hair. If it does, you need one or more of your FEL cylinders rebuilt or replaced.

I guess i should have said that the tractor is NOT running when it leaks down. How do i know what the problem is for sure? is there a cylinder test of some sort? I do not see any leaks on the ground anywhere. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Chances are there is nothing wrong. There has to be some leak because of the way spool valves are made. Having said that, the more money you pay the tighter you can get the tolerance on the valve to a limit. At some point the spool wouldn't work if the tolerances are to tight.

No leaks = no problem...

Perfectly normal. They don't put "construction grade" valves on compact tractors, too expensive... If you don't see any oil drippin' don't worry.

For safety's sake, you should drop the loader as part of your shut-down procedure. You never know when some kid will wiggle the joystick & drop it on your foot - trust me, it hurts /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Same goes if you have an implement on the 3 pt. Drop everything down when you shut it off.

I often lower the loader and rear atachment down when i leave the tractor. I don't remember why it was up this time. I know that in the past, say a few months and 50 hours ago, the loader would not drop at all when left up even a foot or so off the ground. This is why i am concerned about it lowering now. I left the box blade on the rear up all the way and it has not dropped a fraction of an inch. Last night i left the loader up 2 feet and it has bled all the way down. An 18 hour time frame.

NH does spend money on the 3pt valve - it is of "better" construction than the FEL valve - ie leaks less.

I called the dealer yesterday and spoke with the service rep. He said it is normal for the loader to bleed down like i have described. He gave me the rundown on valve desighn and offered to e-mail me the details explaining what he said. No e-mail yet but he did say not to worry.
