I have just changed the fuel filter as the rngine seemed to be bogging down on steep inclines and I thought that the fuel flow was fowled. After changing the filter, the engine cranked up and idled as I rolled back from my garage and then the engine stalled. There is flow through the filter and out the tube exiting the filter under gravity. However, there is no increase in the rate of flow when the engine is being turned over. Is this a fuel pump issue? Air in the lines? Sediment in the injectors?

You were having trouble before changing the filter. Not sure what that was, from the info. However, you may need to bleed the injection system to get it started.
I don't know about the 25, but on my 33 there is a bleed screw that you have to open until diesel begins to flow out of it. Then you can close that and try starting it. I have had to do this sometimes twice because I did not let enough diesel bleed out. It may run rough for a few moments but should clear out. IF that is what is keeping it from starting. I don't know if there is a transfer pump on the 25 but on my 33 it is gravity fed. On at least one occasion I had to break the injection lines one at a time to get it running smooth faster. Hope that helps some. In addition, check underneath to see if any wires are unplugged. You may have sucked some sediment or water into the system too if it was not running well.

To the original poster. if you do bleed the lines.. watch out for the high pressure ones.. don't get your hands near them.. only tools... Diesel injected under the skin = a bad infection and hospital time..

Look closer at fuel system, don't forget to check to see if outlet at tank is blocked. There is a shut off valve on mine. Look to see if its open all the way (if it has one). Greg

Can you discribe where I would find the system bleed screw/valve. A picture would be even better. I am assuming that it would be between the fuel filter and the injectors. I would guess that if the 33 is gravity fed, then the 25 would be also. There was no pressure when the engine was turned over with the line disconnected. There was plenty of flow out of the filter egress. I will look for bleed screw, but if that is not it what do I need to do to get the injectors unfowled?

There is no fuel pump between your tank and filter. If there is flow, it will remain the same during engine starting/running. I think your problem is that you got some air into the injector pump and the system needs bleeding as others have posted.

Can you discribe where I would find the bleed screw for the fuel injection. I am sure that the 33 and the 25 are roughly similar. I believe that my system is also gravity fed as there was no increase in pressure when I turned the engine over while the lines were disconnected. A picture would be even better.

If I have to unfowl the injectors, what will be involved in doing that?

As I said, I don't know as to the 25, but on the 33 it is on the top of the injection pump itself. And please, as soundguy said, be VERY careful of the injectors IF you do have to break the lines loose. The pressures are so high like he said, it will penetrate skin a very dangerous thing. That said, really if you can get it running at all from the bleed screw it will more than likely smooth out on its own. On my pump I forget it takes a 13 or 14 mm wrench. Senility taking over here haha. Be sure that you get it tightened up enough it won't leak once you get it running. When I bleed the injectors I just crack the lines enough to let some fuel run out and then tighten them back.

Thanks for your earlier input, as it sounded accurate enough. I was affraid that the air might have been at the highest point, being at each injector. So, I just cracked each injector, one at a time, and turned the engine over on each until the engine began to crank. Then I thightened them all back up and the engine cranked and ran fine. Thank you for the guidence.

Chalk that one up to learning experience. generally.. once you run a diesel dry, and have to bleed it.. you usually don't forget to fuel it after that. Pretty much only time you may have to bleed after that is with filter or fuel tap / parts changes.. etc. ( stuff you can't avoid. )
