I have been shopping,researching,and watching these post sites for a while and am itching to pull the trigger. I really like the New Hollands but the TC29D and 33D seem to start rough and the hydraulics "whine" and schreech when in use with the loader. The dealer i have been working with also sells Kubotas and is a bit biased towards the Kubota. He pointed out the flaws in the 29/33 and put me on the 35/40/45 machines. I loved the feel of the larger machines but the reality is it is TOO BIG for my needs. So I am leaning towards a JD 4310. Does anyone have any thoughts/experience on the NH 29/33 rough starting and hydro noise? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to TBN. I have a TC29D and as far as start up noise I really have none. But as far as the loader I do get that only when it is cold out. It doesn't bother me because it does go away once the tractor is warm. To me it is the nature of that tractor. I don't think it is a mechanical threat. I love my New Holland and really don't think I would trade it for any of the other models out there. But what is more important than anything is what you feel comfortable with and you have to be comfortable with your dealer. If your dealer recomends the Kubota over the New Holland you are in a tough situation because if you now take the New Holland and something does go wrong he will say I told you so. Also watch for his inventory, if he only has Kubota on his lot, that is what he is going to try and sell, it may not be because he likes Kubota but inventory reduction.
Again as far as the noise, I don't think it is really an issue. Just test drive them all, and tend to side with the dealer you like and you feel is being honest with you.

The noise has been traced to the harmonics off the oil flow thru the hydraulic system. We have bee told that the hydraulic system on all boomers is due to be replaced this fall with a new hydraulic system. as far as hard starting or rough starting we have not run into this problem. I would not be afraid of the class 2 boomers. overall there track record is very good.

Will New Holland have a recall or anything for the people that have tractors right now. Like I said it doesn't bother me much, but if I can get it fixed free, well I would take it.

Two things. First, there is less whining with F200 hydraulic oil, maybe the dealer can replace the hydraulic oil as part of the deal. The whining does go away with either oil once the tractor is warmed up. Also, I have an engine block heater that I use when it gets below freezing, so it starts up smoothly every time even when it is well below freezing. I also add some bio-diesel(year round) and some octane boost(winter). So I would be shocked if I ever had a rough start.
Second, I bought from a dealer who sold both Kubota & New Holland. I asked the owner which one he preferred, and he said Kubota. When I asked him why? He said it's because he sold more of them. (i.e. More money in his pocket) So I rephrased the question, which is a better tractor? He said there really is no difference in quality, so neither is really any better than the other. So I looked at the specs & drove the tractors, and the TC33D was my hands down choice.
Finally, yeah I know it's more than two things, but somewhere last night, I posted that most salesmen will bash a smaller tractor if they think they can sell you a bigger tractor. Maybe if you showed interest in Kubotas, he would be bashing the B-series while trying to sell you an L-series.

Well put. I also use a fuel conditioner every so often, but what is bio-diesel. I have heard of it before. Is it just a conditoner or injector cleaner or something like that?

Thank you ALL for your help and insight. I am going to re-demo the 33d and get some firm pricing. The NH/Kubota dealer is a hell of a nice guy, has let me demo a lot, and answers questions to the best of his ability. On the downside; he does not feel as forthright on pricing as the JD guy and never talks about his dealership and why buy there. The JD guy is also nice,gracious and anxious to answer questions. He shows me invoice pricing, talks about how delivery will work, talks about service in warranty and out, and generally seems more competent. As a novice at this, I get a warmer sense from a dealer support perspective from the JD folks. Any way, Thanks for the help. This site is great and I am glad I registered. Guess I have it narrowed down to the 33d and JD4310. Any thoughts??

Both tractors will do you right!! Only caution that I have is on dealers that show invoices. Most manufactures send out invoices for their products. But there usually is an invoice out there first, that comes before the real invoice with the discounts. This is very big in the automobile industry. Remember all the signs that use to say "$100.00 over invoice" That was a big gimmick. Now I am not saying your John Deere dealer is doing that but to just watch it. If you like the John Deere dealer and feel comfortable then go for it. But you might just want to check with another Deere dealer and see where you end up at.
