New Holland TC29
I am new to the New Holland world, and bought a used 2000 model TC29 with about 900 hours on it. Went through quite a bit of expenses already getting this tractor up and running right, redid hydraulics on loader, fuel control system, etc. Put it to work on Sunday with a 5ft shredder in some heavy grass going slow, and all of sudden lost all power between engine & transmission. Seems like clutch has failed or something within transmission, but did not hear or feel like anything broke or snapped. Just stopped moving & PTO stopped. Engine & hydraulics run fine. But can shift through 3 gears forward and reverse, with no movement of tractor or PTO. I am reading that this may be a split the tractor situation and a new clutch, but not sure if anyone has heard weaknesses of that transmission. Any information is helpful.

Barring a catastrophic failure inside the transmission and assuming your shift linkage is all in place it COULD be the clutch which does involve a tractor split. The simpler route is to check the clutch adjustment and also verify you didn't accidentally knock the transmission into neutral. (I used to do that from time to time with my old Mitsubishi. Besides the gearshift between my legs there was a range selector on the left fender.)

if your rig is gearerd and not HST. Then I would choke the front tires, jack the rear and secure on two jack stands. Don't start the tractor!! Put it in 2 WD if yours is 4wd. In neutral try to turn the rear wheel by hand and it should turn relatively easy. Clutch and put the tractor in gear and see if you can turn the wheel if you can still turn the wheel then there is a good chance that either clutch is slipping or you need clutch pedal adjustment since clutch release fork might be riding on pressure plate finger. You can have transmission issue as well. Need to go step by step to prove or disprove assumptions.
