tc30 - 5 amp fuse keeps blowing

I just bought a house and the tractor to go with it. I bought it used off of the guy I bought the house from. It's a TC30 with a Woods 72" finish mower.

It's got 190 hours on it. All of a sudden it's developed a habit of blowing the 5 amp fuse. This wasn't a big deal at first, but it just seems to happen for no reason. I was mowing great for about 2.5 hours today, went in to grab a bite, started it up and got halfway down a row and it just shut off.

I looked. Sure enough, blown fuse. I walk back to the house, get 2 5 amp fuses, replace it and it starts right up. Then after about 15 seconds; kaput. Another blown fuse. So, I swap in another new one; blam! Another one gone. Now I'm out of fuses and the tractor is sitting in the middle of my field. I guess I'll have to get the Jeep to tow it back to the barn.

Can anyone help me identify what might be causing this and how I can stop it. It's really getting annoying now.

Not sure if this is the same fuse or not, but, there was a post or two back a year or maybe even two, that referred to a warranty replacement of a fuse with a little circuit breaker that went in the fuse clip. What I'm thinking about may have been on the larger TC 35/40/45 series - I just can't recall. If your dealer is no help, you may want to just try something like a 7.5 amp fuse, as that extra 2.5 amps, before blowing, surely won't hurt anything.

Well, now I can't turn key in the darn thing without it blowing that fuse. I see from my wiring diagram that it's the fuse for the safety switch circuit.

I'm thinking I may have a short in one of the switches or something, but I'm not sure how to tell. I guess I'll go out there and try to start tracing wires.

I called the tractor shop where it came from (via previous owner and sticker on the side) and am waiting to hear back from one of the mechanics. Meanwhile the grass is still growing. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
