TC30 Question

I was thinking of adding a log splitter to mount behind my tractor. Does anyone have an idea as to the cost of adding a rear hydraulic kit to the tractor would cost. Is there another way to tap into the hydraulic system without the kit? What is the best way to add a log splitter to a tractor that does not have rear hydraulic ports to connect your hoses?

I would have to say the best way to run your log splitter, would be to buy the rear hydraulic kit. I think that I payed $400-$600 for mine ( it was a few years ago ). I'm not sure if there is a cheaper way, but I think that this is probably your best option. I use mine with my rear snow blower, my pto chipper and my backhoe. I have to hold the lever with a bungee cord, to supply my chipper with constant hydraulic flow that it needs ( the lever that I refered to is beside the seat and it directs the flow of the fluid one way or the other. It is supplied with the kit I think) . I'm sure you'll have to do the same to give constant flow to your splitter too, unless the 3 point splitters don't have their own valve to open and close the ram. I can't remember how they are set up. I wish that I had one more set of rear remotes though. I plan to have a top and tilt set up one of these days, and for that I will need another set. You will be very happy with it. If you forsee using two someday, I would have two installed at the same time, saving a little labor, unless you'll be doing it yourself. Good luck. I hope this helped.

I just had to replace some parts on my rear delxe remote pack for my Nh 7610 late last year. Parts alone were going to be 700$.. Figure in the 800-900 $ range for your set, assuming a dual valve. If there are economy ports.. they may be cheaper.

Another option is a pto pump, spool ,a resevoir, and hoses and couplings. You may be able to rig that up for 500$ or so.. so deffinately check your spool options.. I f the rear remote is anywhere near the price of the pto pump.. go for the remotes.. you never know when you will need them.

Boy,.. it has been a couple of years, but my remotes on my DX40(TC40) were around $300 give or take... and around 200 for each additional set, I bought only 1 set and really wish I had bought 2... they were easy to install.

I would think that the TC30 must be close to the priceing on the TC40

My log splitter was from Northern Tool

and works great, I also use a bungee cord to keep the the lever ingaged.

rear remotes kit ,about $370 in 2003 as I remember, I'd go for the PTO pump for the splitter, what can of tonnage will you generate with the tractor hyd.?

I'm back, had to get my youngest to tryouts,
I did some research on this issue a while ago, before buying my splitter
My tc-30 hydraulics, 6.2 gpm. relief vavle dumps at 2100psi
4" cylinder = 13 ton
4.5" cylinder = 16.7 ton
5" cylinder = 20.6 ton
6.2gpm makes for a slow cycle time,and the larger the cylinder diameter the slower it will be.
13 ton max will not split everything you will encounter
this is why I say a PTO pump for a TC-30
the PTO pump will let you get up to 20 gpm and with a 5" cylinder give you 20 ton with a cycle time aprox. 17sec
For the monies invested in this rig you can get a 22 ton 11.4 gpm stand alone gas powered splitter for $1000, that was my choice
I don't have my tractor sitting there for hours while we are splitting
, use the tractor to get the wood, rear remotes are good
