Tractor
NH TC31DA
Does anyone have experience with the NH TC31DA? I recently purchased 12 acres which about 9 or 10 will need to be cut. I'm interested in equipping this tractor with a 240TL FEL and Woods PRD 7200 rear mower. I have zero tractor experience and really need advice. I visited a few dealers and I'm confident I located the right dealer. The TC31DA is currently available with 0% for 60 months which helped make the decision a little easier. Am I making a good choice?

I really think if you have a good dealer and you stick with the big 4 ( JD, Massey, Kubota, or New Holland) you will be much happier than saving a couple hundred bucks.

As for maintaining 12 acres a 31HP tractor should do just fine.

Can you tell us a little more about the property? Any other tasks in addition to mowing?

Thanks

The land is flat so it should be easy to maintain as far as mowing. I also plan to use the tractor for snow removal and moving mulch, stone, dirt and whatever else may come up. I also would like to plant a fairly large garden where the tractor may come in handy. Having a fun toy like this I'm sure I will invent a few other projects for it :D

unclebean,

Congratulations on your recent purchase. Can't beat country living.

The TC31DA will be able to handle what you want but personally I would be looking at a Class III size tractor. With the added weight & more power will make chores so much easier & quicker to do as you will be able to use larger implements. If you were to go with the 31DA, more than likely with that size property you will migrate to something bigger in the future anyways & take a loss on your purchase.

Just my opinion.

Good Luck with whatever you decide.

Vic

Welcome to TBN :D! I maintain 12.5 A's (~7A's sloped rough field, ~5A's steep woods) with an "untweaked" TC31DA. My tasks include snow removal for ~250 feet of driveway and parking area, rotary cutting my field and "lawn (when overgrown)", material moving (composted manure and mulch, rocks/boulders/dirt), tilling gardens, driveway maintenance, expanding trails, and dragging trees. There are very few occassions when I realistically could use a larger tractor, but I still manage to get the task done (different approach or just takes longer). I believe you made a good choice and with the money you saved buying this size tractor you can buy more attachments- like a tiller for your pending garden(s). Now we can help you spend your money on attachments :) for us  for you. Jay

I'm sure you would be happy with that tractor, you might want to move up to the next size in engine power. As for the fel, I would get the NH model maded for the tractor that you buy. Be sure to check the setup for the fel controls with whatever fel you buy, some may not be as user frendly as the NH controls. I have about 16 acres and my 33da handles every thing just fine.

I maintain approximately 5 acres with a 1720 which is 28 HP and the same class 2 size tractor as the 31. The tractor will do fine. It will just be a little slower than a class 3 tractor sized tractor and will not have as much capacity on the FEL If you can live within those limitations then go for it.

From experience, the engine in the TC34 runs much nicer than the one on in the TC31. The cost difference between them is defentialy worth the money.
