New Holland TC33D
I am thinking about adding a backhoe to my arsenal of attachments this spring. Has anyone purchased and used the Woods 7500 on this tractor? Are there any detractors to buying the Woods hoe over the New Holland? Has anyone tried to install a hoe and subframe by themselves, or is this best left to a qualified dealer? I am a little put off by the price my dealer quoted me. What should I expect to pay for hoe, subframe and installation? Advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your insight.

Not sure if this helps any but on my TC30 I have Brushhog backhoe with subframe mount. The cost, through the dealer, was $6400 I believe. Looking at the instructions, I'd say anyone fairly handy with tools could put one together. (fairly handy leaves me out /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

After what I've seen on here, no way I would have a 3ph backhoe. I know they are cheaper to purchase but the major tractor repairs can easily take the savings.

I bought a used Woods 7500 backhoe that was set up for a 3 pt hitch mount. Then bought the new Woods 4 point hitch subframe and had it installed on my TC33D. My dealer did the install for me, but you can download the manual and installation instructions and check it out yourself to see if it's something you want to tackle.

Note: Woods literature said that it would only fit the TC33DA, not the TC33D, but that is wrong... it fits the 33D with no modifications.

I find the 7500 a very good match for the TC33D, and I'm very happy with the 4 point subframe. I can get the backhoe on and off pretty quickly. The subframe stays on the tractor full time. The design of this subfame is such that you don't lose much ground clearance under the tractor (unlike some other setups I've seen). It's a dramatic improvement in Woods older design subframe.

Although my TC24DA is a little smaller than your 33, I thought I would comment on the backhoe. When we bought this one I paid $6200.00 a little over a year ago. I had the chance to see a Woods BH next to the NH and I was not impressed at all. I generally am very happy with Woods products but chose the NH756C hoe instead.

Here's a pic of it dismounted.

Front subframe detail. I like the fact that nothing really stays on the tractor when the BH is off.

I have a TC33D with a New Holland 757C back hoe which was installed by my dealer. If my memory serves me correctly I paid about $5,200 for it including its subframe installation about 3 years ago. I have been more than happy with its performance. Taking it off is easier than putting it on, but in the end putting it on is really just a matter of accurately backing that tractor over the unit before you connect the hydraulics and raise it into the subframe. I would think someone who is mechanically inclined and has a few big wrenches could handle the installation of the subframe.

Does anyone recommend a dealer in Western NY that has decent prices on backhoes? I am dealing with my local dealer, and now that the competition is gone, they have no interest in reasonable profit. They won't budge from $9000.00 for the Woods 7500 and 4 point subframe. Ouch.

If you get desparate enough to drive to Northeastern NY or Vermont, let me know. I know some good dealers out this way.

Hi TCrider,
I use my Woods 7500 on my tractor (similar to TC30 and 33) all the time. The subframe is really quick and easy and yes I do it by myself. I made the decision to sacrifice my belly mower rather than install the linkage each time and converted to a pull behind finish mower. I've put a couple photos here that show how easy it is. The two rear pins are the ones you currently have to hold the 3 point linkage on. Simply back up to the hoe, hook up the hoses, use the hydraulics to lift the stabilzers up to position the slots to the pins. Back up the tractor to engage the pins in the slots. Then use the up and down motion of the boom to lift the front pin slit into the carriage slot and slide the front pin in position. That's it, done.

If you look around, you might find a good used one, but expect to pay $3,800 - 4,000 for a really good used one installed on your machine from dealer (subframe mounts and hydraulics). Brand new W7500 go around 6,000 plus installation and subframe. Expect it to total around $7,500 bucks for new setup. Good luck.

I am also in the process of adding a backhoe to my arsenal of tools, cough cough, toys. I posted a question here about getting a 757C or 758C. I'm not sure exactly how relevant this will be but my dealer was quoting me $9,195 CDN$ for the 757C backhoe, subframe and install. Using a direct US$ conversion it is about $7,900 US$. I'm not sure what the differences between a Woods and a NH backhoe would be though.

You could always drive to Ottawa and get it, maybe we'd get a discount for buying two! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
