I just had a front tire try to roll off the rim while using the FEL in mud. Dumped the load and backed slowly out of the mud. Tire has come off both wheel beads and is very muddy.

Does anyone know the proper jacking point in front when you have SuperSteer? I don't think my floor jack will go high enough to get to the frame. Is there a better point or does everyone just use the FEL to jack it up?

I guess I could lift it with the FEL and then use a jackstand?

Suggestions?

Jay, You may not get the height you need with the loader unless you place some cribbing under the bucket and raise up off of that. By all means use jack stands. With the loader you'll end up raising the whole front. Place a jack stand on either side of the center point as close to that center as practical. You'll keep the balance with the bucket...the stands are there for safety.

Jay,

I have found with taking my mower off you can get the front wheels off the ground by driving forward as you put pressure on the FEL hydraulics. But make sure you put a jack or block under the axle once up. Don't work around it expecting the hydraulics to hold it up.

You want to place the jack stands as close to the wheels as possible for the best stability. The closer to the center they are, the more they act like a single pivot point, and allow the tractor to roll side to side.

Raise the front end up using the FEL & some cribbing (great idea). For those who may not be familiar with what cribbing is, simply sturdy lumber, usually 4X4's. Place the jack stands near each wheel. Ease the tractor down on the jackstands. you want the weight on the jackstands. If you put them under "just in case" (not weighted) and the "jack" - FEL in this case lets go you could have a problem. If there is a significant drop, there is a risk of knocking the jackstands over. Especially if this in on uneven terrain in the back 40.

When you weight the jackstands, leave the FEL just off the ground, now it is a backup to the jackstands (although not one I'd trust to put my body under).

Not trying to scare you, it is a simple and safe job if done properly. good luck!

When I first got my TC35D w/SS (3 years ago) and was doing FEL work.. I noticed that the front tires would squish down to the rims almost.. when digging. I ended up getting an extra set of front tires & rims and having them foam filled. Didn't put them on until I got a flat one day.. since then.. no front tire problems.. and the stability w/ the FEL is def. a lot safer.. especially w/ loads on slopes. I used the FEL as the jack back then.. once suspended the front axles do swing/teter freely.. making it hard to see where to place a jack. Using blocks.. maybe the front bumper would be good spot.. I wonder what New Holland would suggest. Be careful.. too many people getting hurt/crushed by only using the hydrolics for support.

Well it is all fixed now. Lifted with the FEL and set a couple 6 ton jacks stands under the frame up front. Ran a couple hundred feet of air hose out and removed the tire. The only surprise was that the axle tilted after the wheel was removed as the weight from side to side was no longer even.

Cleaned all the mud out of the tire and rim and put a cargo strap around the tire to get it to start filling with air. Tire has a max of 50 psi, so I put 45 as I use the FEL to capacity a lot. The other front tire was at 25 PSI. I raised it too. Definately will do the foam fill when the tires need to be replaced.

I checked the back tires (anti-freeze filled) and the first one went fine, was at 15 PSI, went to 20 PSI. The other one was filled with fluid beyond the stem, so my electronic gauge did not work. Got an old mechanical and it read 12 so I went to 20 on it as well (tire has 30 psi max). I am a little concerned about the tire having too much fluid, but really have no way to deal with it right now.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Don't worry about extra fluid in tire.
If u have a regulator in air hose set it to your 20psi and inflate tire until the air stops going in.
A chuck w/ the lock on feature is nice too.
