Recently I've blown a number of fuses while trying to start my tractor. I'm blowing the 10 amp fuse. I believe that I would blow the 30 amp fuse if I continue to hold the key in the start position. I recall reading here to replace the fuse with a circuit breaker and the thread listed the part number for the breaker. I ordered it, but I was rather confused when it arrived. There is no way it will fit where the fuse goes.

A few weeks later I read here that there is a service bulletin that says to modify a circuit and add a relay to solve the problem. I called my dealer and asked them to lookup this service bulletin. He called back a while later and said that the service bulletin says to replace the fuse with a circuit breaker. I think we are talking about two different solutions / service bulletins here. Can someone clear this up for me?

What fuse number / circuit are you blowing?

There are a couple well documented problems about NH units blowing a fuse on startup.

I'm blowing fuse #5. I think this circuit sends power to the starter solenoid. My understanding, which could be wrong, is that there are too many safety interlock contacts in this circuit. As a result the voltage that hits solenoid is a bit low, especially if your tractor hasn't been run a lot lately and battery voltage it somewhat low. At the reduced voltage the solenoid draws too much current for the 10 amp fuse. It was also my understanding that there is a service bulletin that describes how to modify the circuit so it no longer powers the solenoid, but instead throws a relay. The relay then sends power to the solenoid directly from the battery.

The problem is...I can't find the service bulletin, which has been mentioned here before. No name or number was given for the bulletin in the threads I found. My dealer is only finding the circuit breaker fix, which in my mind doesn't really solve the problem here. They don't seem to want to be bothered to look any harder for it either.

It's possible I have my circuits confused here.

The folks at Messicks were kind enough to get me the bulletin.
