TC33D or TC29D

I need a tractor to snowblow 600 ft/ mow 3.5 acres/ and do general FEL and BH work around the yard. I have been looking at 29hp units in orange green and blue. The blue seems to fit best. After looking at the specs I am considering the TC33d rather than the TC29D-same frame size with more HP? Any cons to the move up in size other than money? Also is the supersteer option worth it? The cost seems to be about $1000 more. The dealer didnt seem to think it was worth the cost . Thanks for your input.

I guess for me it would depend on your terrain. If it is hilly, the extra horsepower would helpful, for flat land the extra power is probably just a niceity. The 33 cost me $600 more than the 29, so my decision wasn't as hard.

I just bought a TC-33D and couldn't be happier. Mine has the hydro. trans. but not the supersteer. In my opinion the supersteer option looked like it might be a source of expensive repairs later on down the road. There are a lot of extra parts relating to the front axle with supersteer. With the hydro trans, it's not much of a problem to go back and forth a couple of times to make a turn in tight areas. I used a TC-29 before I bought this one and I don't notice any power difference, however you can never have too much power! Good Luck -Busboy

I originally set out to buy the TC25D but my dealer talked me into the 29 because it was only 400 more. But to go up to the 33 it was quite a bit more so I stayed with the 29. My terrain is fairly hilly and my 29 handles the 72" mmm just great. going up the hill I do have to slow down some. I do have super-steer and really like it. I had a TC21D without super-steer ( you can't get supersteer in the 21) and I do notice a big difference in mowing around things. Also most people will tell you that supersteer is not so good with a FEL. It does take some getting use to but for me plowing snow I found it to be helpful when you are in tight corners. But you are right, there is more things to go wrong and probably more repairs with it. It has been around for a long time and I have not heard of any major things going wrong with them.

I have my eye on the TC33D, I think the extra HP will come in handy for powering a wood chipper. I think I will use the power more than the SuperSteer and the price will offset. Also, I am a little concerned about stability with the FEL in some situations.

I hope to drive one along with a Kub in the next week or so, I would like to have a tractor by the time the ground firms up here in Central Wisconsin. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

When I bought my 33d NH was running a promotion..........The dealer actually got me a cheaper price on the TC33D..than he could get on the 29.........It pays to ask around a little........TOM

Well, I looked at several tractors today. I drove a TC29D w/SS, a KB L3130 w/FEL, a KB 3710 (same price as 3130), and a JD 4310 w/FEL - all hydros. I really like the Boomer but, the Kubotas seem like more tractor for the money and the JD costs less than all of them. This is making for some very tough decisions. The only thing I didn't like about the boomer was the Hydro (Not as smooth when changing speed/direction) and the stiff 3pt control (makes it hard to make very small adjustments). Otherwise, it was a great fit.

A fix for this was posted here on TBN a while ago. If you trace the 3ph lever down to where it pivots, there's a nut that holds it on. Pull the cotter pin out, loosen the nut a half turn and reinstall the cotter pin. The 3ph lever will work smoothly. It's been a while since I did this on my TC25D, but this is the general process.

Since you haven't purchased a tractor yet, the dealer should do this before delivery.

As others have probably recommended, go with the best dealer.

My 2 Lincolns...

First, I'm surprised the JD was cheaper. That never happens around here though I think the JD tractors are well made.

Second, having bought a TC29D and ended up with more acreage than I thought I would, I've kicked myself for not gettig the TC33D. My new rule of thumb is to pick the tractor chassis that fits the terrain, and then get the model with the most available HP for that particular chassis. OK, there are a few caveats to that approach, but as long as the tractor "fits" where you need it to, how can more HP hurt?

Thanks for the tip Mike, I do remember seeing something about that a while back.

Jay, I agree with your philosophy about chassis/hp and I think the reason for the reasonable JD prices are because there is a high concentration of JD dealers in the area. These prices are first price quotes - no dickering. I don't think they will go much lower - if at all. The dealer with the higer quote also has the tractor in stock along with most of the attachments that I want. I am going to check into moving up to the 4410 (35hp).
