Soon to be TC33D
First of all, I want to thank you all for your contributions to this web forum. I have been lurking around for a couple of months, and I have really enjoyed reading all of your postings. Most of all, your information has been invaluable in helping me decide which tractor will best fit my needs.

I will preface my questions by saying that I have just sold my 1986 Ford 1210. I have test driven the Kubota L3010, John Deere 4310, and the New Holland TC33D, with and without supersteer. I think I have decided to buy the New Holland TC33D, but I do have a few questions.

I have shopped 3 dealers in my area, which is western NY (Rochester), and the best quote came back as listed below:

TC33D, Hydro, turf's, 7308 loader w/68" HD bucket - $17,350
Possible Options:
R4 Tires - $225
Supersteer - $950
2 Rear Remotes - $375
Quick Detach System for loader - $425

Are these good prices? Is there anyone else here from western NY that did better than this? If so, what dealer? Spencer200, are they close to where the should be?

What about supersteer? Is it worth the $950 bucks? I drove a tractor with and without SS, and each had its good points. The SS tractor had turfs on it and it was really shredding turf when I was turning tight. Also, the inside rear wheel was really making a mess of the grass. How much worse would the shredding be if R4's were on it? Frankly, it only looked like you gain 18", or so, in turning radius with the option.

How about the 68" HD bucket? The dealer said he never sells the loader without the 68" bucket. I am thinking a 60" bucket would work fine for me, as long as it is heavy duty. What are some pros and cons that I might not have thought of?

R4's vs. turfs. I have read the discussions, but when I looked at the tires side by side, I got more confused. The R4's are a good compromise tire, but the turfs were very impressive. They have a really deep, spaced out tread, at least on the rear, that looks like it would do a decent job in about any condition. Frankly the R4's looked like the would load up about as fast as the turfs in most conditions. I know I will be mowing/bush hogging about 60-70% of the time, once I get my new house built and yard put in. Any comments?

Anybody heard anything about any change in rebates/finance programs for after July?

I would like to pre-thank everyone for their feedback.

I've got SuperSteer on my TC 40D and IMO, yes it is worth the extra money. Not only for the shorter turning radius, but also for the Sensitrak clutch. You can leave it in 4wd full-time (Auto mode) and it is smart enough to disengage when going into a sharp turn. You never have to think about whether you need to engage it or not. I've never had a problem mowing and having the tires scuff, as long as it isn't too wet. Plus I've got R4s.

My vote would be for R4s for reasons you've probably read in other threads. I'm very pleased with mine. But I know a lot of people are happy with their turfs so I wouldn't discourage you there.

I don't have a strong opinion on bucket size either. But I would agree on getting the HD bucket. Plus if you ever think you will use forks, I would recommend the quick attach. I probably have my forks on about as much as the bucket and am really partial to how well the quick attach works.

I can't really help you with pricing, I'm sure some of the other guys will chime in here. It sounds like a good price on the rear remotes though.

Good luck!

I have a TC33D with a Woods FEL and 66" HD bucket. I don't think the 60" bucket would cover your rear tracks with R4 tires. I think he's steering you right with the 68"

Tractor Addict:

I have a New (purchased this spring) TC29, equipped with a Woods 1012 loader. I went with the Woods FEL because my tractor sees quite a bit of commercial excavation work. (also have a Woods 7500 backhoe) I went with the 66" HD bucket so I can handle a larger load and so it would cover my tracks while backdragging. However the New Holland 7308 loader has a smaller max lift capacity so I don't know if it has the ability to lift a fully loaded 68" HD bucket. There is @ a 400lb difference between the max lift capability between these two loaders.

I didn't go for the supersteer on my tractor. The Class II Boomers already have a nice tight turning radius. I use mine in some pretty tight residential excavation and landscaping, and have managed without it.

Tires are matter of personal choice, however if you are goin to be doing much of your own landscaping. Especially loader work the R4's might be better. They are also 6 ply versus 4 ply for the turfs. You'll probably have less chance of flats, especially during Brush hogging.

The two rear remotes are a very nice option especially at the price that you posted. Once again it comes down to whether or not you will have a use for them. Hydraulicly manipulated implements are really nice. But they do come with a bigger price tag, and how often will you be using them.

Quick detach for the loader, now thats the cats meow. I didn't order it, big mistake. I just got a set of used Bobcat pallet forks. So now I'm going to have to cough up the cost of retro-fitting my loader with the quick detach system.

Good luck on your new purchase.

Yes go with the 68'' HD loader bucket. My dealer setup mine with it and I am glad he did. The loader can lift the 68'' bucket full of dirt. And when you back drag you cover the width of the tires. I have been disassembling a stone wall from the back of my property and have been using the loader to transport the rocks to the front of my house. If I had the light duty bucket I am sure it would be all beat up by now. Also getting it now with the quick attach option is smart and something that I wish I had done.
