After test driving several different tractors and reading the information on this forum, I think the tractor for me is the TC33D. I have 13 acres that are flat with clay soil. I will be mowing 7 acres with a finishing mower and the rest with a light rotary mower.

My questions are:
1. Does the TC33D have enought power to pull a 7' finishing mower or should I stick with a 6' mower?
2. Can it handle a 6' rotary mower? and
3. Any recommendations on good but but reasonably priced mowers, both finishing and rotary?

Here’s one of Dave’s {Gatorboy} fields that he mows with a 15’ Rhino rough cut batwing rotary mower…

Finish Mowers talk…

More KingKutter Finish talk…

KingKutter Light Rotary Cutter up to 1"...grass...light brush... B o t h!

I’d buy a 5’ KK rotary cutter {$499 NEW!} or try a 6’ first if you can{weight and PTO wise, the 6’ would be pushing the upper limit of your NH}… rotary cutter is more versatile… than just a finish mower and the results may surprise you…

By the way, did I mention $499. NEW?... /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Siebo, if there anyway, or place, you can try out both sizes before buying? I figure John Miller knows more about this than I, but I would think the 6' size would be right for your tractor, and I'm basing this on the fact that I use 5' mowers (both rotary cutter and finish mower) with my B2710 with no problems at all and even think 6' ones wouldn't be bad. My cousin uses a 5' Bush Hog rotary cutter behind his TC29D. Your TC33D is bigger and I think should handle the 6' models easily. As for price, I agree with John about the KingKutters.

Siebo,

I have a TC33D and use a 6' rotary cutter. I mow about 7+ acres of slightly sloping field. I have never had a sense of loading down the tractor.
The rotary mower does a pretty good job, but doesn't look as good as John Miller's picture. As I had mentioned in an earlier post, I wanted a fairway and my wife wanted a pasture, so we got the rotary.

The dealer I bought from did not sell me a New Holland rotary because the shrouding was not holding up. The dealer sold me a Southern. I had not heard of them before, but I have not had any problems as of yet. It seems fairly solid, but I'm only mowing field with it (Okay a few rocks.) Time will tell.

I use a 5ft Woods BB60 rotary mower on my TC 33D. This is their "Standard Duty" brush mower, but is well built: I've moved fairly dense 1" and some 2" saplings with it with no problems. Before I got the FEL, I had to put some weights on the front (two of NH's smaller sized weights) and it was still a bit light on the front end, but no serious problems. With the FEL, it needs no additinal ballast. At about $950, it is more expensive than the King Kutter, however.

If you want to go bigger (6ft mower), you may have problems with it bogging down in heavy brush or very high heavy weeds, but mowing lawn/pasture which is somewhat regularly mowed would probably work. If you don't have a front end loader, look seriously at some ballast for the front end.
