TC33D Won\'t Start

I get lights, but it's not even turning over. The battery looked a bit aged, so I replaced it this afternoon, but no dice. It still won't even make a sound when I turn the key. I last used the tractor -- which is less than four years old -- about a week and a half ago. It hasn't even been that cold here (southern Wisconsin). Of course the shop won't be open until Monday. Is there anything else I should be checking in the meantime? thanks, Peter

Re: TC33D Won\'t Start

Have you checked for a loose wire at the starter? Do the dash lights come on when you turn the key on?

Re: TC33D Won\'t Start

Look for a loose connector just behind and under the operators platform on the right side, this is a pto sensor and is notorious for becoming disconnected after going through brush.

If you battery is good, and the tranny, pto, and break are in the proper position, look for another loose connector at any of these places. Any one of them will prevent the tractor from starting.

No, haven't checked for that. The dash lights do come on, though.

Yes, everything all of the levers, brakes, etc. are in the proper position (I triple-checked that!) When you say the "under the platform", do you mean check the underside of the tractor, under the foot pedals, etc.? Anything more specific you can give me about location would be appreciated. I'm not quite sure exactly where to look, but I'll see what I can find. Thanks much, Peter

Re: TC33D Won\'t Start

Pull the right hand engine cover off & check the fuses on the firewall. I forget wether it's the 3rd one down or maybe the 4th one.........it will most likely be a 7.5 amp.......many times the fuse that goes to the starter relay will blow if you start cranking while the glow plugs are still on. Other members here have replaced the fuse with a 10 amp. or a plug in type resetable circuit breaker. Also the 33d's had a run of bad ign switches.....mine did !! It blew seversl fuses & kept screwing up...............there was a NH "asist" bulletin to the dealers on switch failures & the dealer replaced mine free.

Re: TC33D Won\'t Start

Well, I checked the fuses and they're ok. I tried checking the PTO sensor switch. The only thing I could find was two pairs of wires each ending in a plug on the _left_ side just under the platform (left side if you're facing forward). Is one of these the PTO sensor switch? I could find anything like this on the right side. Both of these plugs seemed tight and well-connected. Other than that I couldn't find any loose wires, etc., although it's not easy to see or get to a lot of areas. So maybe it's the starter switch? Guess I'll be calling the shop first thing tomorrow morning, unless someone has another suggestion. Thanks to everyone who has tried to help so far. -Peter

Re: TC33D Won\'t Start

Hi buckthorn,

Same thing happened to me on my machine and it turned out to be a faulty key ignition switch... took me a while of testing & confirming & calling the dealer back before I could convince them to "just please send me another ignition switch" /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

An easy fix that put me out of commission for 2 weeks to get there.

Must still have warranty... ask the dealer for a new one to see...

Good Luck!

Re: TC33D Won\'t Start

On my TC33DA the PTO sensor switches are routed under the left side of the platform just as you described. Mine got wet in heavy wet snow plowing and slightly pulled apart. Dried them and plugged them together and it started.

Is the PTO light on? Will not start when the light is on. Did you check the seat safety switch? The parking brake indicator? Could be any of the safety interlock devices.

If you have a multi meter you may be able to test the ignition switch. Good luck tracing down the problem.
