I have been reading the posts about TC33 not starting. Well mine would not start the other day, Nothing. Pulled the service manual out and traced out the wiring. Looked at the fuses and found the 10 amp controling the alternator and safety was blown. Put another one in and it blew. Disconnected the wire on the alternator, put another fuse in and fired right up. Turned it off and re-connected the alternator and fired right up. WOW I am not going to have this. Is this common with the 2004 TC33DA? If so craigslist here it comes.

Sounds like a corrosion problem. Corrosion = Resistance. Higher resistance = Higher current draw. But, I would not run the tractor with the alternator disconnected. It can self destruct in short order.

Find an auto parts store that carries Cooper-Bussman auto-reset circuit breakers. Put in a 10 or 15 amp auto-reset circuit breaker and this problem will go away. This is a common intermittent problem with several models of NH CUTs and the CB is the cure. If you ever have a "real" problem, the CB will protect you.

How ironic.

Two months ago, my 2004 TC33DA wouldn't start on one of my landscape jobs. I had plants throughout the property and ten cubic yards of topsoil in the road. I was livid but was able to at least roll it down a hill and up onto my trailer. Couldn't figure out what the heck was wrong.

While at the dealer, I talked with the salesman about a new one and pricing. That didn't take long to cancel that idea but he did find a new 2008 T2220 about 75 miles away.

Yes, they found the fuse. Yes, I finished the job, no problem. Yes, I bought that T2220 the following week.

What did the dealer say was the reason behind the blown fuse? My dealer here in Statesville said myabe a grounding issue with safety switch. I installed the reset fuse and no issues so far. How do you like the T2200?

I think the fuse blows because its' capacity is borderline for the circuit. If the battery is a little weak the voltage will be a little low whicd increases the current draw. Poof, blown fuse. That's why a self resetting circuit breaker 'fixes' the problem. There's also a parts list somewhere in this forum that includes what you need to permanently fix the problem. It was simpler for me to buy the cb and keep a trickle charger on the battery. :)

The high current draw can cause the engine to crank more slowly, especially if the battery isn't 100%. That's why the CB is an ok work around, but the circuit mod is a better fix. You end up with a crisp start every time. No trickle charger needed.

SteveInMD do you have a link to the "circuit mod". I have a 2004 TC33DA that's having the same problem its blowing a ton of #2 10 amp fuse its been doing it for years but its definitely became a lot more often lately and becoming a pain in the arse.
