New Holland TC33DA
Hello all,

On my tractor which I acquired used nearly 3 yrs ago, I have only recently noticed when changing the air filter that based on figures of the air cleaner assembly, my tractor is missing a part. In New Holland diagrams, this part is called the 'Dust Valve'. Others call it an Aerator. In this image, it's the item ID'd by #13. This product page for the item shows a nice 3D model with a tiny slit in it at the end. This figure from Messicks of the part seems to show the actual part, and I don't see a tiny slit.

Here is the thought and my question:
1) Does anyone have this part on their tractor and can provide information about it / a picture/ thoughts on its necessity, is there a slit, is there not a slit? Is the material rubbery or hard ABS-like plastic?
2) I have several 3D printers. I am confident I can model this part in CAD and print it, rather than trying to track down someone who might have it, used or otherwise. Spares pricing for something like this + shipping and handling is daunting. Is anyone able to take some basic caliper measurements relative to the figures I linked above to guide the modelling process?

Let me know your thoughts,
Thanks

That's a rubber duck bill shaped thing. It's designed to let junk out and keep dust out. Mine dosnt have it. I use to work in municipality fleet maintenance and most stuff didnt have it after a few years. Its nothing to worry to much about if you clean your filter often.

It's rubber and has a slit

Thanks - that is very helpful. I won't worry about it. Nothing further on this.

For $28 i'd get the part. There's a reason for it, and your tractors engine is worth a whole lot more. I believe it's function specifically would be to let moisture drip out, but I could be wrong.

I too would get the part.

If you have moisture in there I think you have bigger issues.

When the engine is running, the slit seals. When it's off, it opens to allow any trapped dust out.

The front cover on your air cleaner is designed to centrifuge the dust towards the rubber thingie which is called an 'evacuator'

Thanks for all the great feedback. I ended up purchasing P/N 86526975 (as opposed to 82981184) from Messicks for ~$18 including shipping. The part is not listed as compatible with the TC33DA but is for the TC33D. I figured it would fit and I was not disappointed - it's a nice tight fit. I am pleased to have a more complete tractor and to have a working knowledge on what the part does. I added a hose clamp around the edge as further insurance to keep the part from falling off.

If I am understanding correctly, having the part on there will allow the air filter housing to create a vortex forcing air and dust towards the end cap. Not having the dust valve means no vortex can form and dust and air will do whatever it wants - potentially clogging the filter sooner than later? I would not expect any difference in engine performance as a result of adding this dust valve.

Here is a link to a video that shows how the valve works:

More opining... When I was a youngin I fell prey to the lure of performance car magazines and the parts they sold that would uncork or improve the poor design of the manufacturers. In reality the manufacturers spend millions of dollars to get the best overall combination of performance, durability and comfort. Most mods compromise one thing for another. Before I elect to delete an unnecessary part I'd probably use the wonder of the internet to educate myself on it's purpose.
