So I have a bad sound coming from I think the front end when moving both forward and backward, a clicking/clunking sound. It is more prominent when the FEL is full of gravel that's why I think its the front. Cannot tell what side its coming from so need to get a friend to assist in identifying it. Raising the front end and spinning wheels by hand I do not feel anything bad.

But my question on this is there any special tools needed to remove and tear down a final drive?

Are the bearings pressed on or can they be easily replaced? I think if Im going to tear them down I will replace all bearings and seals anyhow.

Also, what is used to seal the final drive cover? Looks like some kind of goop was used on mine.

Thank You

~ Phil

I know this sounds kind of silly but it has happened to me. Did you confirm your wheel lug nuts are tight? The wheel may be shifting under the load on the hub when you put a lot of weight on the front end.

Yes they are on tight with an impact wrench, have taken them off and put back on several times in process of draining final drive oil and refilling and looking for a leak. Ive also made sure the rim is properly seated around the center so its on correctly.

Thanks - ~Phil

You would use it to remove bearings, seals, hubs, etc. I did not do any sort of write up, I simply used my service manual.

Let me know how it goes with the downloadable version of the manual. I need one for my TC45.

Hi the downloadable PDF ended up just being the operator manual. I found a maint manual CD on Ebay that I bought, waiting for it to arrive.

Update on my issue.

So I had a neighbor who is more mechanically inclined than me come over and assist in isolating where the sound was coming from. When in the cab it sounded like it was the same loudness from either side.

With him walking beside it on both sides and then in the rear and we found the sound was coming from the driveshaft. IE the cover over the driveshaft is banged up and the driveshaft is rubbing on the cover on one side. When I put the tractor in 2WD the sound goes away....

Big sigh of relief!

Thanks ~ Phil
