Bolo, on the early Class III Boomers, there was a recall because some of them had a transmission problem. What happens is that going downhill, the transmission could jump out of gear by itself. I think you could do a search of these forums back to early 2001 and find those threads. The tractors were fixed at no cost to their owners. Not all tractors had the problem, it was one of those things where only a certain set of serial numbers were affected. You should verify with a local dealer that your tractor had the mod or was not part of the recall.
Also, raise the hood on your tractor and examine the radiator and battery shelf area. Tractors from that date had lots of problems with the battery overflowing and rusting out the front of the tractor, radiator, and hydro tranny cooling lines.
Thirdly, the hydro pedal mechanism was very poor on the early tractors. The welds were inferior. Mine broke, and several other owners had a similar problem. It is a problem that is simple to fix, but if it happens, the entire operator's platform has to be removed and that could be an expensive repair if it comes out of your pocket. I'm not trying to scare you, but these are things to check. I'm attaching a picture of this mechanism showing the broken part and inferior tack welds. Notice you can't even see tack welds except on one side of the components. You might crawl up under the right operator's platform and have a look at this part to be sure it's still in good shape. A good welder can fix this, but it's just about impossible to reach without removal.
Good luck on your purchase. I think you have a good deal going, but I also think it would be wise to have this tractor checked at a dealer. It would be worth what it costs. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
