Hey All,

Anyone out there had problems with their tachometers operating properly. My new TC35D has an intermittent problem. It just doesn't work consistantly. Shut down restart it may come on...wiggle the wires...it may work...go away for a while and then start and it works. Can't seem to isolate the cause. It's a warranty thing, but I'm really curious at this point.

Check the connection to your alternator, pin P, since it is the input to the tach. After doing that, check that the fan belt is tight, because if it's slipping, your alternator will also be erratic. Next, by removing the four screws on the face of the instrument panel, you can easily lift it and see if the connectors are tight. If neither of those things works, I'd suggest letting your dealer look for loose wires in your harnesses. ...hope this helps

Hey Jinman,

I'm starting to notice that the outdoor temperature seems to have an effect. Today it was warm ( 55 F ) and the tach responded each time I started the tractor. The other morning, It was a bit cooler ( 35 F and a few inches of snow !!! ) and the tach was psycho...worked on start-up every once in a while.

If my experience holds, there is most likely a weak solder joint on the pin card behind the tach which is affected by the cool weather.

I'll have it checked by the dealer someday...Its not a huge deal. Meanwhile I'll check those points you noted. Who knows ???

Thanks...Feelin Better Yet ????

I'm a bit psycho when it's 35º F and snow too!/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif It was 94º F here yesterday...set a record.

You are correct about the possible cold solder joint causing your problem. They are very tough to find. You might end up having to replace your whole instrument cluster.

I've been doing much better, thanks. I'm a person who is almost never sick and ending up with pneumonia was a big shock to me. Thank goodness for antibiotics./w3tcompact/icons/clever.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
