TC35D WILL ROLL DOWN HILL WHEN ENGINE IS DEAD

My TC35D with HST will not hold it's position when parked on a hill without engine running unless I set the brakes.
My dealer had told me it would. He says it is same as a regular geared tractor when shut off.
Does anyone else have this problem? Do you believe it to be normal?

That's how mine works. I think its normal.

Time to go and talk to your dealer !!!

The hydro transmission will NOT NOT NOT hold itself without the engine running. In fact, relying on the engine / transmission to hold itself without an operator in the seat is pretty foolish ( lethal ).

Hydros will roll downhill without the pump pressure pushing.
I guess this is one of the trade-offs we pay for the ease of Hydro.

Get into the habit of locking that brake. Initially its a pain, but it will quickly become second nature.

The dealer really didn't do any wrong except show his lack of education.

Rolling with the HST engaged is normal. It does provide some resistance but not enough to hold the tractor on a real slope. It does say this in the owners manual. I believe this is because the HST is not a closed loop system and it can force the fluid back through the pump when it is not turning.

I agree that the HST should hold the tractor when not in use but it is good practice to lock the brakes regardless of whether the tractor is in gear or not when you leave the seat.
