I bought a New Holland TC35D last summer. I noticed that when the tractor is under load, such as climbing a steep grade, it tends to continue to move for a second or two, after my foot is removed from the pedal. This usually is not a big problem, but a couple of times I was quite close to the edge of a drop-off. If I had not also applied a heavy brake, it could have been disastrous. I am wondering if this is normal for a Hydrostatic transmission, or is this something that I need to address with my dealer. Any similar experiences?

I am also wondering about the Warranty. I was told by my dealer that the tractor had a two year Warranty. I was told by a friend that bought a TC29D from a different dealer that he had the two year Warranty and also had an additional year for the drive train. Any feedback?

hello Jim,
I noticed that too when my tc35d was new, it has either gone away or I have gotten used to it. I know sometimes I tap the reverse pedal a little when I want to make sure it's not in the roll forward mode.
I disabled the auto engine shut off when your not in it, because I was getting tired of starting it every time I got off to throw a log in the bucket, so I tend to set the parking brake fairly regular anyway.
My warrenty is for the 2/3yr like your friend said.

How's yours doing Peter?

You must take your foot off the forward motion pedal and tap the rear motion pedal if you can reach them. My warranty is the 2/3. Happy tractoring.

I have a 25D and the hydro pedal acts the same. I will report this when I have the 50 hour service done. The pedal should return to neutral.

Gary,

My TC35D is doing real well. I believe you saw my pond report. What fun that was, lots of tractor time. I'm up to 270hrs now. Got a toothbar from Carver too, went with the 1.5" shanks.. real heavy stuff.

My HST pedal only sticks when my machine is cold. I did tighten the spring tension (located underneath the operator platform) to return the pedals to neutral. The increased effort is NOT noticeable.

Jim, I haven't used a tractor with HST but have many hours on mowers with hydrostatic drive. Some of them would do the same thing but they have an adjustment that can be made that should eliminate the problem. I too usually just got use to it from seat time. If I were close to a cliff edge or something I wouldn't trust any transmission to stop without being ready to smash the brake pedal, you never know.

thanks for the info. I'll have the dealer make the adjustment next time in since it is under warranty. Thanks again.

Great advice, Skipper. Caution near a dropoff is the best protection. I've also had a lot of luck on my TC45D by spraying a light lube oil on the "B" shaped part which rides on a roller (attachment). This seems to be the source of friction when it collects dust. Of course, spraying it with oil attracts more dust, but it doesn't seem to matter.

Does anyone know what the adjustment is to find this "neutral" balance point?

Also, how does your tractor act when you stop on a slope, even a slight one. Mine seems to be able to move unless I place the parking brake on. Is this normal or should the hydro trans put enough of a load on the drive to keep it from moving???

On any hill your tractor should be able to creep, unlike a gear tractor in neutral it should not increase in speed.
