I have a 2002 TC40 which has the stock exhaust pipe which vents down and out at about the crankcase level. I have always thought that this exhaust venting design could lead to a dry brush fire so I would like to know if anyone has adapted a spark arrestor to that system. Being that the pipe's end tip has a slight degree of angle and not being straight might present an attachment challenge.

Wow! Have you ever operated at night and seen any sparks being emitted? Our mufflers are quite large, but as you say, they are probably not certified for use in some dry areas or national parks without additional provisions. My guess would be that they would cut the pipe and weld on a spark arrester to the end of the exhaust. New Holland may even have this as an option.

I was hoping you would come in with a solution. What I don't want to do is wander around the trail bike shops looking for a spark arrestor bulb that would probably be metric. Cutting the exhaust pipe would lead to a direct straight down emission and I am not a welder. My Kawasaki diesel Mule has a muffler which states that it is an gov't approved spark arrestor-my TC40 has embossed on the muffler the word "HOT" in very large letters!

I did some research and found a spark arrester muffler option for the 2030 and 2035 model tractors, but none for the 3040, 3045, or 3050 models. That would lead me to believe it is not available or not needed. "HOT" written on the side of the muffler is for people, not grass. You and I can get a nasty burn at much lower temperatures than it takes to burn grass. The muffler is completely exposed with no guards when the hood is open.

EDIT: Oh yes, turbocharged engines are even safer. The exhaust gas is cooled tremendously as it goes through the turbine even before it gets to the muffler.
