One of the steering cylinder hydraulic hoses (number 51 in the attached parts diagram) ruptured because it has been rubbing on the frame. I have ordered the hose but as I look at the limited access I am curious if anyone has experience replacing this hose. My local New Holland Dealer charges $100 per hour for shop time plus another $50 for pickup and delivery so I am motivated to do this job myself. So I would appreciate any tips anyone would like to share. I can't tell if I can just remove the hose or if I am going need to remove the entire radiator to be able to gain access. Any thoughts?

I replaced the steering hose today. For the benefit of the next guy who is searching the forum for some helpful hints this is what I discovered.

This hose has one fixed fitting end (on the steering cylinder) and one swivel-fitting end (under the radiator) The swivel end needs to be removed first.

The fitting requires a 11/16 open end wrench.

With the radiator in place, I did not have enough room to turn the fitting with a combination wrench. An open end with a ratchet may or may not have enough room.

I decided to loosen the radiator and rotate the right side forward without draining it or messing with the attached hydraulic radiator. Once the radiator was rotated I had enough room to comfortably work.

My order of disassembly and tool
Removed the Battery (1/2" open end)
Air Filter Hose (flat tip screwdriver)
Coolant Reservoir (1/2" socket)
Radiator Strap (1/2" open end)
Fan Shroud (10 mm open end)
Battery Base (1/2" socket and combination)
Radiator Attachment Bolts (15mm socket)
Top Radiator Hose (pliers)
Move the Fan Shroud
Lift the right side of the Radiator and rotate it forward
Remove the Steering Hydraulic Hose
Install the new hose and put everything back together
Add some coolant to the reservoir
Add some hydraulic fluid to the power steering reservoir

Hope this will help someone.

Thanks for following up with the cure. I think I'll check all hoses on my tractors and mowers this weekend, looking for potential rub areas. A hose wrap would slow any wear, either the woven cloth type of the spiral wraps. How does that saying go? … An ounce of prevention saves a gallon of fluid? something like that. ;)
