That won't work on the independent pto units.. as the main drivetrain clutch is a single plate, and the independent pto is driven off an inner shaft.. etc.. so the pto load is never seen by the driveline clutch..

Should have caught the independent pto bit in your earlier post, my bad!

Yep.. big fingers.not talking to brain... I was thinking countershaft..and typed otherwise.. that's what i get for answering mail at 2am..!! in any case.. same info still applies..... due to the IND pto's direct connection to the engine..it's real dicey to break loose.. got to worry about things like pto breaks as well.. and those usually don't relesase without hyd pressure... as it stands.. you can't use the tricks to break the ind pto loose the same way you can a 2 stage clutch type..

I have seen some units with warped clutch discs that won't drop the independent pto.. replacement is usually the only fix..

Soundguy,

Usually inner shaft is the transmission and the outer is PTO on either live or independent ( live having a second clutch plate and independent with a set of wet clutch pack in the rear of transmission).
What happens in a case of independent with a stock PTO clutch if I push the PTO selector to disengage with the tractor off and take a respectable pipe wrench with even more respectable cheater bar and try to slowly turn the PTO shaft? would it not free up the PTO clutch? Conversely ,what happens if I block transmission clutch pedal (pedal pushed down) and attempt to push or pull tractor while transmission is in gears? would that not help to free up the transmission clutch? what do you think?

Thanks,
JC

Well I guess the only thing left is to call up the dealer. I wonder if it would be covered on my drive train and transmission warrenty (still have a couple months).

Well, I was really leary of going to the dealer, so I let the clutch stay blocked for a week after I tried all I learned here on the forum. We had a cold front come thru and a couple of days of rain so the wait was bearable. This morning I was going to give one last try and to my surprise I tried to pop her into gear but she wanted to move, then in she went and problem solved. Back to working like a top! Thanks to all for the advice!:D

Now that the clutch has stuck once.. it may be more prone to do so in the future. Your normal use probably slippe dit enough that day to help.. but if you leave it for prolonged periods of un-use.. I'd block the clutch down..

HEREFORYOUIFYOUWANT, Thanks for your response. I had called a TYM dealer and spoke with a mechanic. My son-in-law, took it upon himself, while I was away to teach himself to drive the tractor. The mechanic told me that he must have either not pushed in the clutch while pushing the shuttle lever forward, or just went from reverse right into forward. It is stuck in forward. I have tried to mess around pushing clutch in and trying to get in out of forward with no luck. It almost feels as if it.....I don't know. Is is an actuator that is right under the shuttle lever? It sits on top of what I would say reminds me of a brake cable on a motorcycle, which then connects to the linkage. It almost feels as if that is where I have ordered the repair and parts manual on CD, and am awaiting them. I have less than 200 hours on this thing and am sick over it. Also, the clutch is working, as I can shift between gears, problem is it will only go forward.

Are you able to clutch and move the shuttle shift to rear position without wrestling with it with tractor off. I know some shifters have detent mechanism (ball/spring) that will keep the shifter from jumping out. inversely, a locked up detent mechanism can keep shifter to move. On most like my Ford 1700 I was able to loosen the cover plate/bolt right above the detent to release and re-position properly.
