NH TC40DA (Hydro)
Hello all. Just wanted a quick sanity check before I pulled the trigger. My dealer is offering me a TC40D (hydro but NOT supersteer) with a 16LA loader, R4's and quick-attach for $22,100. I live in Minneapolis but the dealer is just over the border in Wisconsin. It seems like a very good deal based upon my research, but I wanted to verify. If y'all think it's a good price, I'll have a tractor by Wednesday!

I have never priced one that large but it seems a tad bit high. I think the dealer has room to negotiate or check other dealers. Check out this TC45DA with loader and 72" rear blade.

web page

There is some other dealers north of the twin cities on I35 and a few south of the twin cities also. Your price may be ok and if you think the dealer is going to give you good service after the sale that is worth something also.

Is that the new TC40DA or does the dealer have the older D model? Just wondering as the newer DA has some improvements (not sure what all of them are, though).

I think it's a pretty good price. It's about what I paid for my TC40D two years ago and I know tractor prices have gone up quite a bit since then. I'm currently looking at TNs and TLs and the prices are much higher now than they were two years ago.

Here are some options that I got on mine that you might look into:

Rear remotes
Front Bumper
Arm rests
Tooth bar

Good luck with your purchase!

Here's some other info. Check out IronSearch and search for NH and use TC40* as the model and you'll get a list of all the TC40s for sale. For example, there's a used TC40D with 50 hours there in WI for $19,900. You might want to check that one out.

It's been a while, I bought in September 2002:

TC40D with SuperSteer, Unloaded R4s, Grill guard, $17100
17LA FEL, $3915

Total: $21,015.

Correct for 2002 to 2005 dollars: Total - $22054

SuperSteer is a $1000 option. You're probably a ~$1000 high.

Wait for Jinman's answer, he has a tighter grip on the current pricing for New Hollands.

Just watching the SB so I thought I do a bit more research for you. Here are the list prices from the MN DOT site:

TC40DA $19,969 (Loader Ready/HST)
R4 Tires $ 1,879
QA Loader $ 2,509
QA Plate $ 357
HD Bucket $ 582

Total = $25,296 x .85 (15% disc) = $21,501

The final number seems cheap to me, but I don't make a living configuring tractors. I probably left something out like maybe a 3% steel surchage, some sort of shipping that the dealer pays, etc.

Thanks for the interesting info, Tom. I appreciate your efforts. So far, the overall feeling I'm getting is to go for it. I forgot to mention that this is the price he gave me with absolutely no negotiation on my part...all I did that day was quiz him, kick tires, and play in the snow piles with the loader. So I can probably get a little more take off, or maybe a set of pallet forks thrown in or something. I like the dealer a lot, and their mechanic is very smart and a friendly guy to boot. That's worth some money, IMHO.

A dealer you're comfortable with is worth a lot. If the price is close (which it is), I wouldn't hesitate to get the tractor. Sounds like you can work him down to an even number and maybe get him to throw in some items (e.g., shop manuals, 50-hour service).

Good Luck, and please report back with pictures!

There's nothing wrong with your price except your tractor is a two-year old model. You need to find out why this dealer has a tractor that old and is selling it as new (if he is). He should be willing to really negotiate with you on this deal. The price he is asking is the price that tractor sold for two years ago, or more, when it was the latest model. How do you know it isn't a used or leased tractor that has had the instrument panel replaced?

I'm just brainstorming here, but if you buy that tractor, you will need to make sure that you will get the full 3-year drivetrain warranty. You should also get a couple of rear hydraulic remote valves thrown in and those pallet forks to boot.

So, I think the tractor is a little high, but my major concern would be it the tractor was truly new and if the warranty would be for three years. Raise the hood and examine the battery area very closely. If the battery has leaked, it's had two years to eat away at that battery shelf. Don't take delivery until those parts are replaced or the tractor is good as new. If the tractor has gone bad in his possession, that should be his problem, not yours.

My suggestion would be to approach this deal very carefully. It could turn out good, but it could also be a nightmare. A little investigation now could save you a lot of grief later.

I think this was the response Chris (DocHeb) was expecting me to make. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think that's the kind of response that everyone expects from Jinman! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
